Following bert003's lead, I'm starting a thread focused on the Least Used, If Ever Used SAK Tools.
- Toothpick
- Tweezers
There! Done.
This thread can be locked now.
"Jeep. My Jeep? What are you talking about? Penny! My Jeep?" - MacGyver
"Look at me. I'm a hurtin' guy! I'm beat up. I need a month's worth of sleep . . . and I need a haircut!" - MacGyver
"It's been said, 'The best gift a man could ever give another, was his life', Jack Dalton was never one to settle for less than the best. Thank you Jack." - MacGyver
"Reboots are born out of the lack of imagination." M. Lance Frank
Was the pen ever used much? It was introduced, like MacGyver, in 1985. Similarly, the pliers were also introduced in 1985 by Victorinox - I haven't noticed them used in any of the episodes that I've watched to date.

You're right Joe, I don't recall Mac ever using the pliers. With regard to the pen, did any of Mac's SAKs have the pen? I didn't know SAKs came with a pen, except for the SwissCard, which I have one of, until more than a year ago.
So the updated list is:

I have a feeling he has used the toothpick and the tweezers. Just trying to remember something about the situation though. I'm sure he was sitting down - maybe at a table - and he replaces them back in the SAK while talking to someone.

Cool thread MacFan092985
KiwiTek, I think you are referring to the Eraser (Season 2, Episode 2) where he repairs a post mix soda gun by bleeding off some built-up carbon dioxide that has caused a valve to stick. He takes off the button panel of the soda gun, removes the troubled valve spindle (both with his Swiss Army knife) and inserts a miniature pirate's sword from a plate of olives. Using the sword, he opens the valve to the CO2 line fully, and draws out the sword, which lets it close naturally.
He did not use the knife's toothpick but I think he could as well have used it.
As regards the tweezers, I can recall that in the Battle of Tommy Giordano (Season 4 Episode 11), he uses the tweezers to pick the lock of the other motel room. And in The Stringer, he uses the tweezers to pick up something (an insect?) from the floor...
I really think it was in the best interests of the show's producers to keep it simple with regards to the SAK and that's what they did and why the did it. The knife, in it's many forms/functions, potentially could have been used in lieu of and to upstage many (more) great macgyverisms that happened over the course of the series than it did - if they really wanted it to. But who would have wanted that? Victorinox/Wenger perhaps (cha-ching) .... other than those corporate interests - nobody.

Possibly, but I'm remembering seeing him slide it back into the case while talking to someone. Also I'm remembering the camera angle being different to that shot, but it might just be my brain mixing different parts of memories together.
I don't know if he's ever used a SAK with this tool on it, but speaking for myself, I've never, ever used that hook thing that's on the back of some SAK's, next to the phillips head screwdriver (or corkscrew) and awl.

I don't even know what it's supposed to be for.
It's a parcel hook or multipurpose hook and Victorinox didn't introduce until 1991 - quite late in the MacGyver TV Series timeline. I haven't found much of a use for it either - so far. That being said, when we were kids we had almost an identical tool that we carried in our pockets and was used to help tighten our own skate laces - not easy to do for kiddies - especially so outdoors in subzero temperatures.

Did he ever use the corkscrew?
If I remember correctly, in Season 7 Episode 8 (Good Knight MacGyver (2)) he uses the corkscrew to get a handhold and start pulling himself up while he and Merlin were hanging in a pit...

Mac used backside phillips screwdriver in season 3 episode kill zone.
Confirmed. He used it twice. Once to open the wall panel and get the transformer and then to open the lift controls and override them using the transformer.
Cheers
