A videographer with TMZ caught up with RDA outside a grocery store in Malibu and asked him what his favorite MacGyverism was. Not only did RDA tell him, he also told the videographer what items he took from the set.

The TMZ videographer has a really easy going manner and RDA jived with it. Anderson, it appears, does have a very good memory about the series after all and he's spot on - the ultralight rapid design, manufacture, and assembly is absolutely the kookiest, most far-fetched of them all ( I once helped a neighbor with an ultralight kit set (both of us engineers and it took a couple of days with schematic to get it half right).

And so RDA rifled the prop depo of it's swiss army knives, eh? Good on him, there's no one more deserving to have that priceless booty of saks in a personal museum format!!!!!

Btw, what supermarket was he shopping at .... do you guyz in the US still have paper bags at all grocery stores, just a select few, or maybe a Californian green policy?

It appears RDA was leaving a Ralph's grocery store, (based on the sign on the side of the building) a chain originally based in Southern California and now owned by the Kroger Company.

As far the paper grocery bags, most grocery stores I know of still have paper bags but only use them if you ask, otherwise you get plastic bags or people bring in their own cloth bags. I'm glad to see he was using paper bags instead of plastic ones given his environmental beliefs.

Thanks MacFan! I haven't seen brown paper bags in Canada in 20 years or more. Most stores sell/distribute those reusable synthetic bags though, and almost all stores have plastic bag recycling bins where you can drop off any used plastic bags - instead of throwing them in the trash. Enviro-Mac still rides & rules!

My first thought when I saw RDA on TMZ was that it somehow involved Lindsay Lohan. lol Coolest possible beans.

Joe SAKic, you guys have to save all your paper bags to put poutine in. It's true, you have to ask for em most places here, some don't even have them anymore, but there is one place called Woodman's that gives you paper by default. Massive stores, think super walmart, only with the whole building full of food.

Lol, a lot of people would like to bag that L'il Rusky. Oh, poutine mes amis! I'm thinkin that's what's in all those brown sacks in RDAs cart these dayz. Protein shakes begone!!!!!

RDA with a solid memory of MacGyver = Possible commentary for possible MacGyver Blu Ray release!

That would be a terrific release!!!

He'll do it! There just needs to be the 'right atmosphere' and we'll get it done. I'd pay at least $200.00 for the complete series and donate another $100.00 to SSCS /Save the Whales to boot for that copy - especially with RDA's insightful, insider commentary and MDB or whoever else wants to chip in with any production memories.

Call me skeptical, but although he was pleasant and answered the questions, to me RDA's body language was screaming "go away!"

The way he rubbed his face and looked away form the camera as he walked towards his car both looked like he was feeling "just leave me alone. I don't want to deal with this." Also the way he edged around the side of his car, although he did pause there for a minute to talk, which was nice of him to at least indulge the camera guy's questions even though it seemed he really wanted to just leave.

I also got the strong feeling that RDA was just trying to remember any MacGyverism when he said "It'll come to me." and the Bamboo one was the first one he could remember - probably because, as he said, it had been on Mythbusters, so maybe a little fresher in his mind. So I personally am skeptical that this is really his favorite MacGyverism, probably more like the first one he could remember from all those years ago.

It would be nice if I was wrong mind you.

RDA and MDB commentary on the Halloween Knights episode would be awesome!

His lingo and demeanor( often abrupt bordering on comic indifference!?) is almost exactly like it is at his youtube fandom Q&As. He'll often get people to repeat questions and in order for buy time for an appropriate answer. His memory seems fine, - his response time, due to either senior-esque moment(s) or more likely because he's got more current/important things on his mind - a tad delayed when put on the spot and mine probably would be too after 20-30 years. I don't think it would take much to get back up to speed with some notes, re-familiarization, and a teleprompter though.

Didn't they just ban whaling the other day and Japan went along with it? I read that somewhere.

I think you guys are dreamin pretty far about blu ray. The studio has far more important things to do, such as putting less popular shows on blu ray and making merchandise for films & shows that are far less famous.

I also noticed his demeanor, just seemed like he was not really in the mood but being courteous enough to not come across badly. I can totally relate to it because I usually hate to be bothered when out running errands. I can only imagine being famous and getting out in pubic, and how I would be annoyed by people recognizing me, because sometimes its bad enough being an ordinary guy in a small town.

Yeah I was thinking the same kind of thing and actually wondered how often, if at all, he gets recognized while he's out and about just trying to do regular stuff like grocery shopping etc.

He did this at ECC in Seattle (asking people to repeat the question or give him more info on the episode they were asking about). People can be so specific, using the names of he episode, and expecting him to know exactly what they're talking about. I can't imagine trying to remember something specific from 30ish years ago. I don't imagine he sits around watching his entire body of work in preparation for a Q&A session. Even if there were notes and a teleprompter, he has a HUGE body of work. It could take half the panel just to look stuff up.

He does seem rather like he's just being polite, in the video, but it was nice of him to give the guy a few minutes. I imagine, even though he's probably not recognized as often as he used to be, he's used to it, but it has to get old.

BTW, in the video it looks like the exact same shirt he wears wearing during his panel. For a man who's worth a small fortune (I read around $30M), he doesn't seem to drop it on clothes. He seems relatively normal (by non-Hollywood standards-does that make sense?) and very down to Earth. He drives an Audi, which are nice cars (I drive one), but not terribly expensive. I'm sure he has other cars and motorcycles though.

I think he's always been pretty grounded as far as material things go, or maybe just frugal like MacGyver. While in Ireland a few years back to promote a Halo game release he mentioned in a radio interview that he had found a store which sells "work-men type clothing, which I presumed meant the rugged heavy duty (almost army type) clothing, and he said he loved that kind of stuff and had spent up large in that store. You hear the odd comment about down to earth style in some of his MacGyver-years interviews as well.

One thing is for sure, he's taking it easy nowadays. Maybe he did had this attitude about not wanting to talk to the guy for too long. I think it was very smooth of him to keep moving. Slowly putting everything in the car and than slowly going to the door to go in the car.

You know, though I think it was very nice of the interviewer to suggest to ride the cart back, he shouldn't have done that. He could've just followed him there and back to the car, to buy more time. But in the end, it was a nice gesture, like to say thanks and sorry for the intrusion.

I know how much RDA likes his privacy and all, so this was something really cool to have a chat with a fan and stuff (outside of conventions etc.).

Nice guy.

I enjoyed that. The camera guy was actually friendly, and not pushy - though one must wonder why on earth you would bail someone up after they'd finished the grocery shopping.
