| QUOTE (Dragondog @ 27 May 2018 - 08:39 PM) | Any prayers and/or well wishes would be appreciated. Got some nasty allergies acting up right now. My throat is killing me, but I know from experience the worst will be in the days to come. |
Hope you feel better soon Dragondog! Being sick sucks, and I know allergies have been really bad this year all over the country. I have to take a daily allergy pill to keep it under control, otherwise I get wicked sinus headaches.
I hear local honey is good for allergies, but I never tested the theory. Put it in some hot tea, and that might soothe things a little bit.

We don't see much wildlife here in town. Sometimes, animals from local farms will get loose. There was a pig in the yard behind the complex squealing up a storm one night. I was on Skype with a friend, and he heard it. He thought they were having some sort of sacrifice or something.

Thanks, Jedi, I'll be trying that later. My throat feels better today, but still raw, so the honey should help. And pigs having sacrifices

Yes, they like their space - that's for sure ... and sometimes yours too! One big difference between Canada and the USA though - is that we have rabies inoculation programs that we carry out through aerial drops and so any case of rabies makes national news re: not that common. So, that's one less thing to worry about and to cause mama from getting overly cranky! |
That's a pretty neat idea! Cartoon raccoons must be based off Canadian raccoons. I saw a couple of rabid raccoons close to my house a few years ago... |
Yikes! I haven't ever seen rabid raccoons near where I live, and I'm not complaining! So I'm a little worried about something. I got myself a disqus account to use on the DragonChat section of the How to Train Your Dragon forums, and have been following some of the users and getting followed back. I just got a follow from someone I don't recognize. He's not from any of the sites I frequent, and I don't have any idea who he is or why he knows I exist. Or why he wants to follow me. I managed to block him, but that doesn't stop a user from seeing my posts, just stops me from seeing their posts. I could make my account activity private so no one can see me, but I don't want to lose the followers I actually trust. Anyone got any advice?

hm... my Disqus account is open, I think. When I started, I had a private profile (as in Twitter) but then I thought what's the point - the Disqus comments are open for anyone to see (even without having an account yourself) anyway. So if anyone want's to follow my profile, they shall. It's their own fault if they want to get loaded full of my fandom speeches I've had a Disqus profile since 2012 and so far; I've never had any problems. And I don't know anyone of my few followers. I noticed on Twitter sometimes random people start following me - hoping I'll follow them back (which I don't). They're often commercial accounts; trying to sell stuff. They usually unfollow me a few days later. Good riddance, I'll guess.

I'm not quite so worried now, it just took me by surprise. I guess I should expect it, what with Disqus being so social. I expect it will happen when I eventually get a Twitter account, too, though I doubt I'll freak out so much, lol.

It's nothing too concerning. I get random/bot followers on Twitter and Instagram all the time. I just ignore them and they go away. I get random friend requests on Facebook as well. I'm VERY private on Facebook, so unless I know that person, I'm not going to accept it.
But, it's basically life. You have a phone, you'll get random/bot calls. I get them on my personal phone and at work pretty much daily. I screen all calls, so if it's not a number I recognize, I let it go to voicemail.
Do the same thing when someone knocks on my door. If I don't recognize them, I don't open the door.
Access denied. lol

I have a rabies story. When I was in Grade 2, one of the students from another class brought in a basketful of baby raccoons. They were taken around to ever class for a show, tell and cuddle. (cue, the dark musical score). The next day there was a school announcement - anyone who had physically touched the little cubs - had to report immediately to the principal's office - they were suspected of having rabies! (cue, the tears, and schoolyard horror rumors). Anyway, I'll spare you all the anticipated drama because before anyone had to roll up their sleeve or drop their pants - they were cleared of rabies a few days later and all was back to normal. Moral of the story: do not touch any wild animals, best just observe them from afar and leave be! @Jedi, Yes I will post them, but drama already in that my #1 telephoto camera - shutter mechanism just broke on sunday. Big bucks to fix, but luckily it's still on warranty - Fedexed it out today, but the little bandits only stay in the den for about 8 weeks and they must be at 3 or 4 weeks now - 2 weeks at least to get it repaired/returned. Tick, tick, tick ..... @Dragondog - Lovely capture of the Robin in the process of feeding her checks. Good focus and overall fine composition. Well Done!

No, I hadn't. I didn't know much @ 8 years old - but knew enough not to touch baby wild animals - no matter how cute they were. Didn't really matter because ( you now the schoolyard rhetoric ... ) everybody was gonna get 'it' anyway and .... hey! - look at Charlie over there - he's already foaming @ the mouth! Anyways, I won't be touching these ones either, but the twinkie and marshmallows I've been living for Mama in the nook of an adjacent tree have been gobbled up like clockwork each and every night since I discovered the family. Bonding, foodie style! Here's the first snap to show the layout (see below) .... the den is only about 6ft off the ground and you can just make out her head ( I blew it up in the inset) in the hole. When I banged that ladder against the tree on Sunday, the babies went ballistic and started yipping like wild banshees. Need to trim off some(I'll wait til she gets a bit more use to me) of those dead branches near the den hole and then I'll have an unobstructed telephoto shot from the hall window and can just wait for the babies to poke their head out while I sip my morning cuppa. You can see that the weeping willow tree has seen better days and is at a 45 degree lean! More pictures to come ... this story is just beginning .... ...................Once upon a time, in a tree far, far away ......

Thanks, I hope so too. My allergies have been preventing me from eating and sleeping. Without food, I get heartburn. With heartburn, I get sick. When I get sick, I have a hard time getting food in me to fix it. Add the fact that I haven't slept properly all week... I hope no one minds my rant, I needed to vent.

Yes, that's probably the case, but as far as I know, decongestants are behind the pharmacy counter for this reason, so I would've thought that this stuff should be too. But I get it, I really do, I just hate it when all the illegal drug activity causes so much trouble for everyone else. Sigh... Not that I blame the people who carded us either, they were just doing their job. I already have Mucinex pills at home, but they're HUGE. So I wanted the liquid so I could actually swallow it. I suck at swallowing pills
