Sorry MacGyverGod. Never liked Rocky V. I was young but distinctly recall watching Rocky IV in theaters. It was a thrill. Even the audience cheered and had a great experience. I even remember watching Rocky V in theaters and clearly recall my disappointment. I don't deny the quality of acting nor the visual direction for the movie. For me, it battled to top the 4th movie perhaps because nobody expected Apollo's fate. Even Rocky Balboa felt tiresome but I accepted it. And yes, i have since seen Rocky V another two times. Each time feeling empty. It just didn't work for me (And many others). But that's the beauty of movies. Not everyone likes everything. What might appeal to me might not appeal to you and vice versa. Sometimes there are those movies that capture the attention of almost everyone but you're never going to see eye to eye on all. For example, I was young when I saw Close Encounters. Decades before Independence Day. Before there was never a motion picture that was told in a realistic foretelling. Before, It was always about world domination. This was a story about actual phenomenon that real people experienced. Obviously taken to the next level but it was a movie. The visuals alone were mind blowing for its time and to many, the experiences of the main character felt personal. Watching it 30-40 years later might not share your impact but had you seen it at the time, it could have been your Independence Day. I guess this is why so many have different views. You have to be there at the time watching it on the big screen to fully grasp it. Otherwise you miss the boat, so to speak. People who watch movies that came out 10-20 years ago now wont necessarily share your opinion of a movie because they were just not there at the time of its release. So they don't get it. With us being there, we often compare to our original experiences and that's what makes it differ. Kind of like the new MacGyver. It's current audience were just not there when the original was around, so they don't get it. And in 20 years from now, the next generation won't get it either.

I think each franchise has their miss. In this case it was Rocky V. Yet Rocky V, is I think one of those rare movies, in which I'm trying to figure it out what went wrong and why and look for the good in it. The movie kinda intrigued me because, I remember not liking V but I couldn't exactly say why. Rocky goes broke, is forced to go back I remember seeing when we taped it on VHS, unfortunately the years kinda ruined the video so when the dvd's came out I got them as soon as possible. First thing I did was watching the final fight. Now I almost know that fight punch by punch. You saw Rocky IV? Four were already made before I was even born. Can't believe I'm actually as old as Rocky is in the first movie. It's a little, you know... But I get what you mean. You know, I didn't like Close Encounters that much but I can dig the idea. I can dig a lot of things. I was very impressed with Jaws, which is an even older movie and I saw at the age of 12. And same thing goes for Gone With The Wind, which is from a totally different era. I can understand the impact but understanding it is perhaps different than fully experiencing it at the time of the release. So lastly I have seen Rocky Balboa. I don't think it felt tiresome at all, it was way better than V. And yet I have good memories about that one. For starters it's the first Rocky film I have seen on the big screen and it was the only time I have seen it with my grandfather before he passed away. We were big Rocky-fans, watching the movies every now and than. I even watched Rocky II & III when he was dying. If Rocky Balboa felt tiresome, it's probably because he himself got old. 30 years after the first bell and 16 years after that last fight. Times have changed, things have, peoples moved on or passed away and your glory days are long gone, yet you are still alive even though you don't seem to be fitting in the new picture anymore. It really shows that: 'Time goes by too fast.' Rocky 6 really feels like visiting an old dear friend, maybe in hopes to reconnect after years of absence. Besides Geraldine Hughes was so beautiful. She has that look in her face of being fragile yet strong like Adrian but in a different way. Just imagine if RDA would make a MacGyver movie like that, visiting the old neighborhoods: the places he lived in, Phoenix Foundation, Jack's hangar, the Challenger's Club, after all these years, would that feel tiresome? Well maybe not for us. Anyway this is how I rate the Rocky movies and Creed. Rocky. 5 stars. Rocky II. 4 stars. Rocky III. 3 stars. Rocky IV. 2,5 stars. Rocky V. 2 stars. Rocky Balboa. 3 stars. Creed. 4 stars.

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. 'You don't mess with perfection, Mac. Bad karma.'
Anyway last night I have Night Of The Living Dead and The Witch.
Night Of The Living Dead was actually pretty alright. This was the 1990 remake though and with Tony Todd playing the lead. Yes, it was a B-movie in the highest grade. According to a lot of fans another unnecessary remake of the original, which has been years since I've seen it. Maybe my expectations where that low and I just liked it. The first zombie confrontation lasted longer than I expected, so I thought I was in for a good braindead movie. And for what it was worth, yes it was. Tough lead, though leading lady, scared kid, annoying blonde and a man who thinks of nobody except himself convinced that he is the only one who is right. Nothing new, but to most perhaps an insult if you liked the original.
The Witch. A scary horror film about witches and one the makers of Blair Witch should've seen before they remade their witch-movie. This one was definitely scary. A family of seven are exiled from their village because they have their own interpretation of the Bible. They move to an isolated farm near the dark woods and evil forces are taking over, their crops fail, a family member goes missing and slowly the entire family descent into madness, turning on and blaming each other for the misfortune that is happening to them. It's not for the faint of heart. A little hard to follow though, since they speak with a 17th century dialect. Mostly 'you' and 'yours' are replaced with 'thou' 'thee' or 'thy'.
I do believe that recentely or at least in the past year, the horror genre lives again. Lots of new good and scary stuff come out and The Witch is one of them. Also starring one of the girls of the movie Split.

I though it was um... electrifying.
Anyhoo. I saw Tequila Sunrise last night but I didn't like it that much. Of course Raul Julia did his best again but by the time he got into the movie, it was already too late. Not much happens in the movie at all and felt like those over hyped heist movies with an ensemble cast where they take up the whole movie preparing the big heist for the end of the movie and nothing happens in between. Except this is about a drugs deal and as well as the drugsdealer as the cop fall in love with one woman. A chase sequence, a shootout and a fist fight would've helped a lot but nooo. I do think I saw Delasora in a few scenes though. Just avoid this one.
The Hit List. A direct to dvd movie with Cuba Gooding Jr. and a not so bad idea actually. So some guy named Allan is having a bad day; a missed promotion due to a younger colleague, a black eye due debts, a cheating wife (with his best friend). At night he goes to bar to get drunk and meets Jonas (Cuba Gooding Jr.) They start talking and Allan is getting more and more drunk. In the conversation Jonas confesses a murder he committed earlier that day and which is now on tv. Allan does not believe him so Jonas asks him to write down five names of peoples he wants to see dead with number 1 being the priority. Thinking it's a bad joke Allan does so and the following morning he finds out the fifth name has been killed and that the four others will follow.
This one is definitely a B-action movie. With exception of Cuba, I have never seen any of the other actors before. Maybe Cuba hit a low back than, I don't know. The idea was good and there was action but was just a little too much B-movie.

Since I don't know yet when I will see The Fate of the Furious. I will review the others now.
My story with The Fast and Furious franchise is actually pretty interesting. I remember seeing the trailer and thought it was cool and I wanted to go see it. Oddly enough the first Fast and the Furious got an R-rating in Belgium, so I wasn't allowed to go see it. I was like 14 at the time. Couple of years later when it was released, I did see it, one time but didn't like it actually. I did see the comparisons with Point Break though. Cop goes undercover, befriends the leader, falls in love... and later his cover is blown, but the whole car thing never appealed to me for a long time. It was about racing and I just wanted to see car crashes, cars flipping over and in the first movies there was not enough of that. That's what I figured that would make a good movie back than. That's when and why I thought Bad Boys II was a good movie and 2Fast 2Furious sucked.
Anyway, years passed until I learned to appreciate the first movie. This was due Paul Walker's untimely death in 2013. That's what caused me into watching the first movie with different eyes. On how much that actually was the beginning and what it meant for the Fast Family or to be part of that family. How a few kids from the neighborhood made their own family. A family with severe flaws yet Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) tries to keep everything together. And just as his sister Mia says it's so nicely: 'Dom is like gravity, everything gets pulled to him.' And they all have their love for racing in common. Dom is the leader, Brian is the sidekick, Mia is like the conscience, she worries about Dom and the others and is the only one who dares to argue with Dom and Letty is Dom's girlfriend. Hot but a little too arrogant for my taste at least in the first movie. That is also something you see in later movies and with other characters, they mature and usually gain weight too. Just look at Vin Diesel and Matt Schulze (the guy who play Vince in the first and fifth movie) they're pretty skinny in the first one, if you ask me, though they're fairly muscular. Anyway what attracts me to the first one, now more than ever is it was the foundation of the franchise and how they all look so together, they're a family.
The second one takes us from L.A. to Miami and we follow Brian there and we meet Roman and Tej and Suki (who really needs to come back) and Monica Fuentes. Since Brian is on the run after letting Dom go, he is brought in and asked to do a job in order to get a clear record and wants to work together with Roman, an old friend who went to jail because of him. Brian is the only one to return from the previous movie. Also this one is very much about racing and for a long time I figured this one was the least interesting out of all 8 movies. Thin storyline despite the introduction of Roman and Tej. Again not much car crashes or stunts on that matter. Yet when I last saw it, I thought it was almost as good as the first. Which may seem odd after all this time.
Tokyo Drift was the first one I got to see at the theatre. Actually I was asked to come along and I agreed reluctantly because I didn't like the first two at the time. It's still about racing though and we get introduced to drifting. And where better to take the viewer than to Tokyo, Japan where it was invented. We meet Sean, a 17-18 year old teenager, who just had been arrested for the third time because of racing and there for is send to his father in Japan. He goes there meets Twinkie and Han and falls in love with Neela who has a relationship with a Yakuza named DK, who of course can't have that and wants to get rid of Sean. In order to do so they have a drift race. Han teaches Sean the skills of drifting but also has his own agenda as he seems to be stealing money from the Yakuza, something he pays for with his life. In order to get revenge Sean suggests a drift race and the loser has to leave town. Again for a long time I thought this one was the best, at least of the first three movies. It has a few car crashes (finally), great score and songs. This is again one of those exceptional movies where I really like the songs too. Though the last time I've watched the movie, I thought this was less interesting and figured this now as the least interesting one.
With the fourth movie the franchise makes a very interesting turn of events, though some will say it's the fifth one who makes the turn. The fourth one marks the return of Brian, Dom, Letty and Mia of the first movie and introduces us to Gisele with a cameo of Han, Tego and Santos. Five years have passed, so chronologically this is the third movie set in 2006 (the release of Tokyo Drift). After a robbery on a gasoline train and a police raid on their hideout in the Dominican Republic, Dom and his current crew decides to split up. He even leaves Letty behind to hide in Mexico. He receives a call from his sister Mia with the message that Letty is dead and even though he is wanted, he goes back to L.A. to find the ones who did it. Meanwhile Brian (reinstated and now FBI-agent) is looking for the same guys and their paths cross again. He also reunites with Mia and tries to explain what he did to them five years earlier. It turns out Letty was working for Brian and that she is dead because of him. Dominic beats up Brian for not telling him. They eventually make amends and decide to go after the guys who did it, who run a drug cartel in Mexico let by Arturo Braga. This was the first movie I really liked, it was still about racing though but not as much as in the previous three. This movie has the exact right balance between racing and overblown action. To me this was the actual movie that revitalizes the franchise and tests out to: what do we actually have here and what can we do to make it more appealing to those who are not into racing and go bigger and better in the next one.
The fifth movie was to me the first one I really liked from the start for what it was. It was bigger and better and more overblown that the fourth. The first movie to go to the 2 hours and 15 minute mark. The action pieces are spectacular from a train heist to more gunfights and fistfights and a spectacular vault heist. Almost everyone from the previous movies return: Vince, Roman, Tej, Han, Gisele, Tego and Santos and introducing Hobbs and Elena. Because Brian and Mia rescued Dom out of a prisoners bus they are once again all wanted by the authorities and escape to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil where they reunite with Vince who says he has a job for them. Mia appears to be pregnant now and the threesome knows they have to find a way out of running and disappear forever, so they decide to steal a 100 million dollars from the biggest druglord in the capital. Only there are more than a few problems since the money is stashed away in a police station and they have got a special agent named Hobbs after them, looking to arrest them all. Finally this one had everything I was looking for so desperately in action movies of recent years, strangely enough I did miss the racing though. Yeah, I know go figure. I wouldn't mind one or two races but not that has the upperhand in the movie. In fact there was a scene in which Brian and Dom go look for cars for their heist but the race itself was not shown. And for once I thought it was a shame. But can't have everything in this otherwise perfect movie.
Furious 6 pretty much continues the trend 5 has started. They got away with their 100 million and they all lead seperate lives now. Brian, Mia and Dom are now living at the beach and Elena is having a relationship with Dom. Roman bought his own plane and Tej gives money to poor people while owning a garage and Han and Gisele are travelling through Asia. Meanwhile Hobbs found out thanks to Monica Fuentes that Letty is still alive and works for Owen Shaw who has been attacking a Russian military convoy. So the team is brought together once again with newcomer Hicks to take down Owen Shaw and find Letty. Shaw is hiding in London where they find his hideout and give chase. Also Letty is there and shoots Dom without hesitation. They find out Letty survived her attack in the fourth movie and that she got blown away by the explosion of the car and suffers amnesia since than. Shaw is trying to find components to create a device he will sell to the highest bidder. He only needs one more component he can find in Spain and decides to attack the military convoy there. The group travels to Spain and try to counter attack Shaw who has been destroying the highways with a tank. They manage to capture Shaw but he still has one last surprise for them since he has taken Mia hostage forcing them to let him walk away. After another twist (which could've been a great cliffhanger by the way) the group chases Shaw and his team down a long runway when he tries to escape by a gigantic plane. Brian, Dom and Hobbs fight it out with Shaw and his men on the plane in one of the most spectacular scenes I have seen in the franchise. The finale of this movie suddenly came darn close to the vault heist in the fifth movie with my last viewing. After they managed to take down Shaw, the arrangement they made with Hobbs has been fulfilled, full amnesty and the chance to go home. The group no longer is running from the law and it seems like they are finally redeemed. Brian, Mia, Dom and Letty return home. Unfortunately their troubles are far from over when Han dies in Japan. Originally thought Han died during a chase from DK in Tokyo Drift in an accident with an upcoming car. It turns out it wasn't accident but murder by Owen Shaw's older brother, Deckard Shaw. And so Tokyo Drift becomes the sixth movie chronologically. Sometimes I wished the movie ended at that twist, fade to black followed by the title card: To Be Continued... But than I wouldn't have had my nightly finale.
Before Furious 6 was even finished the studios revealed they wanted to release the 7th movie exactly one year later in 2014. Yet Justin Lin the director of the movies since Tokyo Drift refused to do so, since he wanted to complete the post-production first. That's when James Wan stepped in to direct the next one. The whole movie was well on it's way when late 2013 fate struck and Paul Walker died in a crash. The production was placed on hold when everyone tried to recover from this horrible event. You barely notice though that in the movie. Fast and Furious 7 in my opinion is the best of them all, in every way possible. Kurt Russell joins the team and I think the group faces their biggest challenge yet. Interesting on how where they began as criminals to become fugitives of the law to pretty much working undercover for some shadowy government agency. The movie starts where the last one left off. Deckard is visiting his brother in the hospital and vows revenge on Toretto and his team and is ready to pull out all the stops, he kills Han and almost succeed in killing Dom, Mia and Brian. On Han's funeral Dom notices they are being watched and chases the car and he meets Owen's brother for the first time. Prepared to fight they are interrupted by a covert ops team. Deckard flees and Dom is brought in and meets Mr. Nobody who promises to help him take down Deckard if he does a mission for him first to find the God's Eye and rescue it's creator. The God's Eye is a system that can track down anyone, anywhere in the world and is there for useful to find Shaw. First they rescue Ramsey who later joins the team from a convoy in Azerbeijan and than travel to Abu Dhabi to find the Eye. And what better way to have the finale back home in L.A. This was actually the perfect final movie for the franchise, yet they decided to have three more and I'm all for it. People always want more and I'm sure Paul Walker would've wanted it too. As long we keep in mind Furious 7 can't be topped, we'll never be disappointed.
And now I close this very long post.
This is how I rate them.
The Fast and the Furious. 3 stars. 2Fast 2Furious. 2,5 stars. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. 3 stars. Fast and Furious: 3 stars. Fast Five: 4,5 stars. Furious 6: 4 stars. Fast and Furious 7: 5 stars.

I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Very thorough review MacGyverGod on the Fast and Furious franchise. Yes, there is no doubt that the plot to the original is identical to that of Point Break. PB was a success when it was first released back in the early 90's. Even its remake could not make gold as well as its predecessor. Strangely, i have always enjoyed the odd releases. I liked 1, 3, 5 & 7. Never liked 2, 4 & 6. Which kinda worries me because i will probably dislike 8. I eventually got around to watching Split. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan & starring James McAvoy (from X-Men fame) as a creepy person that suddenly kidnaps 3 girls and locks them up in what seems to be a room in a basement of some sort. Naturally the girls are terrified and try to investigate their surroundings in the hope of escape. But upon closer inspection of their captor, they soon start to realize that he has more than one personality. The question is, are all his personalities evil? And can any of them be convinced to help them escape before a new, darker one emerges? This was Shyamalan's return to form. I suspect most audiences have grown a little tiresome of his earlier movies as he got to a point where his movies felt minimal compared to the thrill of early releases such as the Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable. I knew there was a link to an earlier movie Shyamalan directed in this movie and even knew which one but that is part of the fun so i wont mention it. I give Split 4 stars. Next up was Heat. Released back in 1995 & directed by Michael Mann, I got around to watching the directors cut which was recently re-released in HD. Boasting an impressive cast such as Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Natalie Portman & Ashley Judd, this is the story of master criminal Neil McCauley (De Niro) who, in an attempt to pull off one last heist before retiring, also needs to deal with the actions of one of his accomplices and keep his other ones in line with their families. Meanwhile Lieutenant Hanna (Pacino) attempts to track down McCauley as he deals with the chaos in his own life. It is the ultimate cat and mouse story which sees these 2 iconic stars go face to face with each other. Heat, the directors cut is long. Approximately 2H50M which means that there are a lot of character developments along the way. But it is worth the time. A movie which has also grown on me throughout the years. I give it 4 stars. Lastly, I saw The Relic. Released back in 1996/7 and starring Tom Sizemore as a detective who helps an anthropologist (Penelope Ann Miller) hunt down a strange creature that is killing people in a Chicago Museum. This is a typical monster movie set in a museum but still held up compared to others i have seen before. I actually did originally see the Relic in theaters when it was first released and it did not do much for me. But watching it again made me like it a little more. Still, the origin of the monster was a little silly though. All in all, I give it 3 stars.
