Well ladies and gents. I have witnessed the awe of Avengers Infinity War.

This, the third in the entry is by far the most comprehensive addition to the Marvel universe and probably the most difficult to make. Starring almost every single hero and still making it all fit into a blazing 2 & a half hours is a marvel in its own right. And the result? It’s applauding. It also makes the last 10 years worthwhile and understood. It all leads to this. For a super hero movie, it’s magnificent. And from me it qualifies as a 5 Star flick. Watch it now!

Well MacGyver85, I finally got around to watching the Greatest Showman.


This is the rather upbeat and revved up story of P.T. Barnum, the famous showman who founded the Barnum circus which has existed for many decades and who quite literally created the entertainment medium.

Although the movie focuses less on the actual life story of the man and more on his creation, I get the sense that it should have portrayed more accurate details about his life.

The movie has also been a victim of much criticism largely due to its poppy soundtrack.

Still, If I look at the movie for what it is and the reasons why they decided to update its music to obviously appeal to a younger audience, I "get"what they were trying to do. I have to admit that the first 10 minutes of the film had my undivided attention but parts of the film felt unbalanced as it seemed to only focus on parts of his life that were relevant to the entertainment side.

So what did I think? The stars were great, the performances were incredible and some of the songs were magical including Never Enough, Rewrite the Stars and A Million Dreams. But I guess I would have loved it more had it been more of an Andrew Lloyd Webber production and less of a Zac Efron one.

Still, as MacGyver85 mentioned, its definitely worth a watch. I give it a generous 4 stars.

Then i got around to watching Pacific Rim - Uprising


Set approximately 10 years after the events of the first film, the story focuses on Stacker Pentecost's (Idris Elba)
now grown up son played by John Boyega of Star Wars fame. Being a troubled teen growing up too quickly becomes a reality for him when his world literally falls apart with a new threat facing humanity. Jake (Boyega) decides to take the mantle of his father's reputation and his step sister played by original star Rinko Kikuchi to take on whatever new enemies come Earth's way...

This is a difficult one. Mainly because original director Guillermo del Toro tried for many years to bring this sequel to life and was stepped on. And as reality has it, when the company wanted to go ahead with it, all involved moved on to bigger and better things. Enter: Steven DeKnight. New scriptwriter and director.

And of course taking this film in a new direction was prime for them to do. The results are clear. It could have been incredible. Instead it is acceptable. And i have to wonder why they did what they did. Still, it is not a terrible film and if you looking for cheap thrills, you might find them here. I give it 3 stars.

I've only seen Pacific Rim so long ago, don't really know the history behind it. It seems mostly the studio's fault as usual. Steven DeKnight wrote episodes for Spartacus which was mostly good, I don't know what his part was on this movie. I assume him was just hired by the studio and did his job. Also Steven DeKnight shouldn't be confused with Steven Knight, the writer of Locke and Peaky Blinders.

Yesterday I went to see Rampage: Big Meets Bigger starring Dwayne Johnson and directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas). If you liked San Andreas, you will definitely like this one. The story is about a failed science experiment in space. When the space station explodes three samples of the experiments withstand re-entry on Earth and crashes in North-America. Two on land, one in a river. During the night, three animals, a gorilla, a crocodile and a wolf comes in contact with the science samples and it affects their DNA is turning the animals in huge monsters. The gorilla was in care of Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) who tries to keep the gorilla alive when a radio signal is send out through the country to lure the animals to the company who are responsible for the experiment. The gorilla, the wolf and the crocodile are going straight for the radio signal destroying everything in their path. Meanwhile Davis and Dr. Caldwell, former employee of the company tries to keep the military at bay from killing the animals.

This is a great example of what Kill Zone could've been as a movie. A big credit to both Johnson and Peyton. Especially Peyton, who seems to be able to make long and spectacular scenes with loads and loads of action in it. Just like San Andreas this is a movie about action and spectacle the story may be a little on the thin side but it had the same outlook as San Andreas. The makers of the movie knows what is and what it is not, they just have fun with it and don't care about anything else. 3,5 stars.

I gather it has little to do with the video game?

Seems as though Dwayne Johnson is Hollywood's latest stamp of approval. Put him on anything and its a hit.

Can't say. I never heard of the videogame. But it's a videogame from like 1986. It's probably very outdated. Dwayne Johnson and Brad Peyton are a great team. This is their third film together and Johnson's second in merely two months, I've seen. Jumanji has been released on dvd now and they're still showing it in the theatres. Yeah, Johnson's good.

Video game was very popular when it was released.


Since it was first released back in the 80's its had several sequels for multiple platforms including Spectrum, Commodore, PC, PS1, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, you name it.

And yes, the movie is based on the game. It's success, apart from it's creative team is also thanks to the rising popularity of big monsters smashing up cities.

Yeah, no more cheesy Syfy or Asylum movies. Move over Marvel, Kaiju is coming.

Speaking of cheesy sci-fi movies, i saw Mimic 2 on Friday.


Made back in 2001 and being a direct to video sequel to the hit 1997 film, Mimic 2 sees the return of the Judas Breed cockroaches which start to follow Remy, the entomologist and friend of Susan Tyler (Mira Sorvino) of the first film. With the help of a detective, she tries to hunt down the creature and destroy it before it plagues the city.

The overall quality of this movie naturally suffers from the lackluster budget and cheap production values. For a cheap thrill, it makes for an adequate watch but its just not the first movie no matter how you put it.

I give it 2 stars.

Then I saw Black Panther.


The best way to watch this is to first see Captain America - Civil War where the story begins and then watch this. T'Challa, descendant to the throne after the death of his father, returns home to the mystical city of Wakanda in the heart of Africa. But taking that mantle is harder than it seems when he is forced to face an enemy that threatens everything his family and city stand for. Soon he takes on an ancient line of warriors known as Black Panthers to ensure justice prevails...

This is the first big budget release for Marvel to introduce one of their famous black leading characters. I actually remember reading the Black Panther comics when i was a kid. I say the first despite Blade being the first because Blade is not technically part of the current universe.

So what did i think of the movie? It's fun. It's a little too political at times in terms of the story behind Wakanda and its people and felt like trying to understand the logic made it difficult to follow. In many ways, it felt like he was Bond with all his gadgets and cool tech and makes for an interesting addition to the MCU. It could have been shorter and more to the point but that made it less "Fun". For that, I give it 3 stars.

Recently I saw the Winchester movie. I thought it was awesome, despite some bad reviews.

I remember Mimic. Well at least the first one.

I finally found the dvd of The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc directed by Luc Besson and starring Milla Jovovich, John Malkovich, Faye Dunaway, Dustin Hoffman, Vicent Cassel and Tcheky Karyo.

I think we all know the story of Joan of Arc a local French girl who claims she has been hearing voices to be called to battle the English in France in the 15th century. She goes to see the Dauphin Charles VII of France to give her his army to lead the French to victory. He does so but the soldiers are skeptical over her leading abilities since she is a woman in the first place, illiterate and has no education whatsoever. However she manages to gain several military victories until she reaches the walls of Paris. Now the Dauphin has been crowned king, he no longer supports Joan and wants to take on matters with diplomacy instead of warfare. He concocts a plan to get rid of her and have her taken prisoner by the English where she is been charged for heresy and they try to have her executed for it.

This was my first epic movie I have seen in the theatres, though I was only 12 at the time. This was a rather violent and bloody adaptation of the story for my recalling. Strangely enough I remember how my mother responded to the violence in Braveheart but seemed to have no problem with this one and took me with her to see it. Even more strangely is that my mother doesn't want to have to do anything with religious or biblical references whatsoever. I don't even remember why she wanted to see it or why I went with her but with the stuff I've seen then and now it's not really suitable for children. Maybe that's why I never forgot about the movie, (how can one forgot those god-ugly hats?) well I did completely forgot large parts of the movie, after all it has been 19 years but I remember shots of Joan's visions and Jesus sitting on a stone throne underneath a tree. And the visions made it for me at that age hard to follow.

Anyway, for the first time in all this time I had seen the movie from begin to end and I really enjoyed it. And as I usually find out the movie didn't do well back during it's release. It was a big flop and meant as a follow-up to the success of The Fifth Element. Yet, I would give this movie 3 stars and it would be the one I prefer to watch over The Fifth Element.

It looks like Rambo V is finally happening. The film went into a pre-production yesterday.

Yup. This was one that was on and off and on and off.

I've been wanting to see this, actually. My sister and I are gluttons for punishment when it comes to horror movies. XD

We just recently watched Insidious: The Last Key. Like the movies before it, it's rather predictable and typical. Same usual gripes and complaints I've had with the other run of the mill horror movies. It always amazes me how the characters have so little common sense and no survival instinct at all. lol

I just rewatched Eight Legged Freaks, because that movie is hilarious. Interestingly, I'm some what arachnophobic... but that movie and Arachnophobia are a couple of my favorites... just because of the dark humor. lol

If anyone ever wants to watch a Back to the Future Part 4 or at least the next best thing, then head on over to youtube. This guy put the games movie sequences together. It's about the closest you'll get to a sequel. Don't forget the popcorn!

I haven't seen that movie in forever! Such a great movie.

Watch The Void yesterday, along with Vengeance with Nicholas Cage. I liked Vengeance a bit better. The Void was... weird, but okay. Reminded me of The Thing (the John Carpenter one).

Does anyone remember The Blob? I used to watch the original one with Steve McQueen a lot as a kid. My parents loved that movie and regularly quoted it. Anyway, they're remaking it again, which is due in 2019.

Just for giggles... when I little, I used to sing this a lot.

I've seen both the original as well as the remake but that's like ages ago. A new one exactly 30 years later seems symbolic. I hope they make it nice and gory with maybe a touch of black humor.

Watched Ready Player One last night.

Recently reviewed by MacGyverGod so ill try not to step on his reviewed toes, RPO is set in 2045 in a rather broken down future where most of society are victims to technology's grip with the creation of a virtual world called Oasis. Before the death of it's creator, James Halliday, he decided to leave a challenge for any potential player to win. The prize? All of Halliday's wealth and comp-lete control of Oasis. Up for the challenge? Enter Wade Watts, an unlikely hero who uncovers more about it's creator than most realized ultimately unlocking the secret of the challenge.

There are enough "Easter eggs" in RPO to hit every note of a song and Spielberg doesn't shy from paying respect to lots of his fellow friends and filmmakers including, "Stanley Kubriek, Bob Zemeckis, George Lucas and a dozen more. It's not so much the ones you see but rather the ones you miss that are quite special. It is so unlike to see a Spielberg film go in this direction and at the same time it is exactly what you would expect from this creative genius. I personally enjoyed this new age adventure and totally agree with MacGyverGod's review. I too give RPO 4.5 stars.

Been to the Deadpool marathon last night at the movies. I already wrote a Deadpool review here a while ago which was great. Deadpool 2 was good as well, though I had a bit the feeling they reused some stuff, like it's the same but more. But that shouldn't spoil the fun. Deadpool is still foul-mouthed and as crazy as before. The plot seemed to be a little more serious and darker than the last one though. But the action sequences are great, the movie is still funny, it was a good one. 3,5 stars.

Apparently Ryan Reynolds is set to play Deadpool two more times in a third Deadpool movie and in another spin-off called X-Force. Also Reynolds is set to star in the sequel of The Hitman's Bodyguard and the remake of the movie Clue based on the Hasbro game.

I'm hoping my sister and I will see Deadpool 2 next weekend. We're planning on see the Solo movie as well in the coming weeks. It looks rather good! Well, I hope it'll be good.

I watched an Anime movie called Blame! last night that was rather decent. It's got a Terminator/Matrix vibe to it with it's setting.

Precious Cargo.

A thief named Jack is forced to steal a half a billion dollars worth of gems by his ex-girlfriend from a crime boss. When the job is done, nothing is what it seems in the end.

This movie is a Bruce Willis film, only he is not the hero this time, he is the bad guy. The hero in this movie is one of the most unlikely actors to play an action hero. The action hero in this movie is... *drum roll* Mark-Paul Gosselaar whom we all know best as Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. He never did anything in a particular after SBTB, mostly small roles and mostly tv-work and after like more then 25 years after SBTB he made an old-school R-rated action movie which to my surprise was rather enjoyable too. Next to Willis and Gosselaar, Claire Forlani co-stars in it. It's not top-notch but it was entertaining for 90 minutes. 3 stars.

A Quiet Place.

This movie is about a family that tries to survive after the world has been attacked by aliens. Aliens that attack on sound, so it's important to stay quiet if you want to survive. That's pretty much it. The movie reminded me of The Mist and The Road, both very good movies and they seem to have mixed both concepts into this movie. Only I wasn't impressed, though the movie gets good reviews. The idea was nice. Imagine you have to survive in an environment where you cannot afford to make any sound at all. You may whisper very quietly and use sign language. There's a path you need to walk on, preferably with no shoes because every sound might attract aliens or monsters. Can you imagine living like that?

The biggest problem I got with this movie is a major plot hole. Part of the plot is that the mother is pregnant, long after the invasion. Why would you want to get pregnant in situation like that if you can't afford to make any sound at all? There are all sorts of things that could go wrong during pregnancy. And why didn't they just move to a place that is completely soundproof like a recording studio, where they are able to talk? In total there were only two scenes where there actually is spoken in. Plus they never really fully explain what exactly happened. That worked really well in The Road but it didn't in this movie. By the time the movie gets going the film is over. Since I'm generous... 2 stars.

The Bridge On The River Kwai.

I think the title says enough, but I was not impressed with this classic movie. Maybe I missed out the whole point, even though it's not that hard. British POW's has to build The Bridge On The River Kwai and a battle of wills between the British colonel and the Japanese commanding officer begins, which is won by the Brit. He is obsessed by proving that you can't break to British spirit and shows that by building a better bridge than the Japanese on the river. His obsession over this apparently has led to his insanity, which was nowhere to be seen I might add. I had no idea, he became insane. To me he was just a guy, who succeeded very well in making his point. Besides he reminded me of Higgins in Magnum. I just don't see what so classic about this movie. 2,5 stars, sorry.

It's been about two years now since Jungle Book got his live action version or a new one is coming. Though I think this is more of an origins story.

Ah...The Neverending Story. Decided to watch this past-time bundle of joy again. Released back in 1984 & starring Barret Oliver as Bastion, a lonely schoolboy terrorized by bullies from his school decides to run away from them and hide in a bookstore. After the mysterious store owner teases him about one of the books called the Neverending Story, he decides to "borrow" it by sneaking into his school's attic to read the book. But as the story begins events in the book seem to hint a parallel in the real world making him wonder whether the world of Fantasia is actually real.

This was one of Wolfgang Petersen's directorial greats and for many, a film ahead of its time. With a great score by Klaus Doldinger & the famous main title by Limahl. Ironically the book was quite different to the film and naturally only covered the first half of it too. Still, if you have never seen the film nor read the book it is worth giving it a go.

Despite it being a little outdated a strong message of sticking to classic forms of entertainment is clear. Yet the irony is that most of you will end up watching the movie instead.

I give the film 4 stars.

Neverending Story was one of those movies that I loved, but when I was a kid, it was a bit traumatizing.

Artax in the Swamp of Sadness always made me upset, and Gmork towards the end gave me some serious nightmares.

It was a great movie, and I actually still love it to this day.

My sister and I were talking about this the other day. We're both the same in that if there'a tragic death at the end of a romance movie, we don't bat an eyelash. Titanic? Moulin Rouge? Piece of cake. We're not sad. But kill a beloved animal? We're blubbering idiots.

Independence Day: Resurgence.

We've had 20 years to prepare, so did they. 20 years after the War of '96, the world has been rebuild after the devastating alien attack that nearly destroyed the planet. The world has set aside their petty differences to form the Earth Space Defense programme led by David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) who saved the world from the alien invaders. The Earth has harvested the alien technology and put it to good use by using it for the protection of the world. In Africa the battle lasted longer and it is found out that the aliens in the country were able to send a distress call into outer space that has been finally answered. Realizing the aliens are coming back with forces and spaceships that are 10 times bigger then last time, humanity has to prepare for another battle that might completely destroy the world for good this time.

For a long time, I always thought ID4 never needed a sequel. When I saw this first time in a drive-in theatre, I was sorely disappointed. My thoughts were confirmed. It never needed a sequel. ID4 is one of those massive successes you can never top. In 1996 this was unseen. Never seen before footage on arriving spaceships above all the major cities in the world. The story was simple: the world gets destroyed by alien invaders. A modern day War of the Worlds. And the world gets saved by America. Yippie. Along with Terminator II, Jurassic Park, Braveheart, Titanic and The Matrix, ID4 is like one of my best 6 of the 90's. A 2,5 hour spectacle on how mankind would rise out of the rubble and joins forces to beat a common enemy. Not to mention the final desert scene in ID4 is my favorite ending scene in a movie with the most glorious and victorious score ever.

But then again Hollywood or should I say Roland Emmerich couldn't leave well enough alone. Even though they also had their doubts about making a sequel, they have been considering it ever since 2001 after 9/11 and eventually made it with the intention of making a trilogy. First time I saw the movie all I could think was they shouldn't have bothered. But I think the biggest problem maybe was the script. It lacked something, that didn't lack in the first one. The first one felt relatively new. Mankind faced a situation they never faced before: a worldwide attack by aliens on all the major cities in the world simultaneously and Will Smith was the badass hero. Maybe that was the problem as well with the second movie... no Will Smith, since he asked an outrageous paycheck for both sequels and the studio said: no. Also the switch in composers bothered me a bit. David Arnold scored the last one and delivered one of his best scores. Now it's quite obvious on how Harald Kloser is Emmerich's usual composer since they're the best of friends. It was indeed nice to see familiar faces like Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner and Bill Pullman, all twenty years older, despite time didn't have any effect on Hirsch apparently. I think Goldblum played David very sober but he seemed smarter in the first one. He was like the brains in everything. Hirsch was mostly comic relief as in the first one only this time he is alone most of the time. Spiner was actually despite being dead in the first one also a nice familiar face. Bill Pullman was like the best to see again. Not only he was like the coolest president in film history, now he played him very traumatised after the events of the first movie. He sort of took in Randy Quaid's place from the first movie.

Now after seeing the movie for a second time, I seem to be getting the movie better now and I got to commend Emmerich for his vision in all his movies: ID4, Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Resurgence... I think this guy genuinly believes in world peace because each movie seems to cry out for it. Despite our differences, we're all human and we can find a way to live peacefully together. I think MacGyver would agree with him.

Anyway Resurgence gets points for that and now I would give 3 stars where I give the first one 4,5 stars.

As "The Last Unicorn", this movie was a bit traumatizing . Though I guess they're not really Kids movies, even if they look like it at first glance.

I've seen the "Neverending Story" movies first (the 2nd one at the theatre, I think) and read the book a few years later. Loved both.

A lot of stuff back then was pretty traumatizing... anything created by Jim Henson gave me the creeps. For instance, we used to watch the Jim Henson Hour when I was a kid, and I had the crap scared out me by the Ultragorgon, which is this enormous dragon animatronic.

Ultragorgon <--- This is my nightmare fuel... =P

My sister and I saw Deadpool 2 today. It was pretty funny, though not what I was expecting... and I don't mean that in a bad way. I did like it. Pretty much the best thing of that movie was Domino. She's awesome.
