While I think we all want something (even those who only like the original show are you going to complain if paramount releases them with behind the scenes documentaries interviews etc on blue ray no I don't think so)
So here is what I want and this is extremely optopmistic but hell why not and this is also going chronologically
Late January Phillip Winchester is cast as Macgyver the full press release revels that this is going to be a Casino Royale approach to the original show (meaning some characters will show up both later on in the season as well as in later seasons) the rest of the cast of the pilot is filled out and Phillip announces "in order to prepare for the role I plan on watching all 7 seasons both TV movies and reading the book and comic book. My Macgyver will be familiar to long time fans but it will not be a carbon copy of Richard Dean Anderson portrayal similar to Daniel Craig versus Sean Connery" most of us are happy some are nervous and a few are angry but the discussions on this board are mature and genuinely up beat and positive Febuary Michael Chikless anounces he is leaving Gotham and joining Macgyver to play Peter Throton ( Same as Phillip Michael acknowledges the huge shoes he has to fill but looks foward to bring Thorton into the 21st century)
Also in febuary Ubisoft announces a three video game Macgyver series. The series will have Richard Dean Anderson reprising his role for the first one and that like splinter cell did in the 90's Macgyver will reinvent stealth and espionage games.
March-may filming of the first few episodes goes well we get the first still of Winchester as Macgyver (fans complain he has no mullet but a short military style hair cut the producer point out that even RDA's hair grew as the seasons went on same with Phillip) we also get announcements that the show will use the original theme song and that original series with all new behind the scenes footage and interviews will be released starting with season one In September.
June DC comics announces they have bought the rights for Macgyver as a comic book entity and like there Batman / teenage mutant ninja turtles crossover earlier this year they will have a Macgyver / batman cross over in December 2016
July the trailer for the new Macgyver comes out. (And since I am bored on a Sunday and have an over active imagination here is what I am thinking)
Opening shot of the new Phoenix Foundation building (Thorton voice over) this is mission critical We see people in hazmat suits running through NYC (Voice over continues) you know no one has ever tried this before A shot of a shadowy meeting "HIT will not be held responsible for your mistakes any more" The music builds to this crews do A very attractive young woman says "you know your a very different guy" (Phillip Winchester wearing the classic brown leather bomber jacket) "yeah I get that a lot" (Cue the Macgyver music) shots of Winchester running and being shot at thrown in a prison building a sled out of plane parts using a Swiss Army knife to pick a lock lots of quick shots of explosions and action and finally
The Macgyver logo with the explosion in the background though instead of red lettering like the comic book it's an ice blue.
August the soundtrack to the first season is released September the show air and it is an updated remake of the pilot ( similar to how the force awakens is an updated version of a new hope) a few noticeable differences of course (Thorton is preasent he works for DXS exclusively and we find out more about DXS and Macgyver in general) most fans enjoy the episode some complain of the similarity of the two pilots. The fall: the rest of the fall the show does great in ratings and fans seem to like it the mid season cliff hanger is that (stealing from winter soldier) HIT is a terrorist group growing inside DXS the government wants to shut it down and Macgyver and Thorton are trapped in Alcatraz by their former friends and collegues at DXS.

Nice dreams. I just want the score to the original series released from all composers including the movies. And a worthy PS3 and/or 4 game like they did Back To The Future by Telltales. A 3rd person point and click game with action sequences. That's about it. Maybe a new book would be nice.
Further more I have no expectations towards a new show.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Sometimes you just have to die a little inside to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. It's better to be a little sad than to be fake content.

Wow. That is quite an extensive expectation to a 30 year old show.
Unfortunately it will probably never happen. But while we are on the topic of dreams, I'm all for a game being developed which accurately depicts the character. Even an original soundtrack would be nice. I do not have any faith in reboots as I have yet to see one which does it for me.

The entire series released on blu-ray in a nice package would be awesome for me. Of course with new and exciting bonus features: Making of, interviews, maybe a table conversation with Richard, Henry Winkler, Lee David, Bruce McGill, Teri Hatcher (one can dream, right? ).

There are plenty of video game companies that would do it justice... like BioWare, Crystal Dynamics, or Bethesda. MacGyver would make an excellent third-person (optional first-person) action/adventure game.
Imagine being fully immersed into the franchise you love the most... being able to explore every aspect of it. Going to the boat house, driving the Jeep, talking to Pete, seeing the Challenger's Club, battling Murdoc, etc, etc, etc.
Not to mention that you could get most of the original cast to voice their characters... including RDA!
*sigh*

Its a nice thought Jedi but I suspect they wont mainly for the following reasons.
About 10 years ago, Davilex released a Knight Rider Game followed by a sequel. They also released Miami Vice game to coincide with the TV series. Both titles didn't sell very well and left an impression.
The last MacGyver Mobile game didn't exactly do handstands on the floor Either.
There is also nothing to promote the game.
If the new series brings about some success and front a possible marketing campaign, then there could be a possibility.

I agree Macsjeep. I don't think you can ever top the original. Perhaps a Mac-type show, but not a MacGyver remake. RDA, Pete, Murdoc....no topping those guys ever.

Never really thought about it this way but on a positive note, having somebody like Wan involved is a good thing.
He is very big in Hollywood at the moment. So attention is drawn to his work. This will no doubt be the case when the reboot is developed. And of course, more exposure to the character is always a good thing.
