I found this interesting when I logged into Facebook this morning. It's on Twitter as well. Figured I'd share.

Just been told that one of the reasons that CBS have called for a MACGYVER reboot is because my Image Comic was cited as proof that Mac would work in the 21st century.
If this is true, then great. And CBS, I'm more than happy to write an episode for you.

Some people don't have any vision, or imagination. Sure, some aspects of the show is out of date, but the show still has aspects that are relevant. Heck, I've benefited from the show and it's made me into a better person... still kind of an idiot, but I do the best I can. XD

I wonder if elements of this story and Wan's original idea will be the idea for at least the first season?
because this
"My initial concept was I wanted to do a young college MacGyver who went to Boston, one of the great universities, who’s really brilliant, right?”, "I wanted to put my MacGyver story around something like a ‘North by Northwest': He gets blamed for something that he had designed, something really big that’s something everyone wanted."
Sounds like it could be mixed with the graphic novel.
Okay, this might be taking nitpickiness to a whole new level. But is it just me, or does the idea of MacGyver at an elite East Coast university feel all wrong?
In the series, he was born and raised in small town Minnesota, then moved to the West Coast first for college and later for work. All of which shone through in the character, who was a perfect mix of Midwest Nice and California Laid Back, of old-fashioned rural Middle American values and sixties New Left bohemian ideas. The East Coast in general and "one of the great universities" in particular doesn't fit that persona at all. MacGyver seemed to me like someone who, while he was definitely smart enough that he COULD have gone MIT or Ivy League, would have instinctively recoiled from that - in the same way and for the same reasons that he recoiled from ties, suits, and more professional haircuts - and gone for something more fun-sounding, more down-to-earth and especially less "establishment" just on general principle.
No diss on the East Coast intended. I'm from there, I live there, I love it there. It just doesn't feel at all like MacGyver's brand.

for me I am curious how the first season will shape up in the original show MacGyver didn't join DXS till I want to say Nightmares?
As for Mac in an ivy league school Mac went to a bunch of colleges in his 20's including the prestigious University of London (I believe it's been a while since I saw MacGyver Lost Treasure of Atlantis) As long as the character stays the same (down to earth believes in the good of humanity hates evil etc) I have no issues with changing elements of the background the question for me is how do you keep audiences interested. I believe Because Wan and Scott Gemmill are behind this we will get at least a few episodes the question is how to get a few seasons like the original for me maybe the show should go like this
Season 1: Mac on his own on the run from assassins and government agents He meets Peter Thorton in the Second to last episode of the frist season and by the first season Finale agrees to work for DXS. (I imagine the first season would be a lot of globe hopping and even helping out with local problems similar to the first few episodes of the original show)
Season 2: Mac is working for DXS the emrgence of Hit also happens and the second season finale would introduce us to a rebooted Murdoc (this would also cause the DXS to be destroyed)

Treasure of Atlantis was a stand alone movie so I don't think it can be considered part of the MacGyver show universe. There's not really anywhere in the timeline where that could have happened so it makes more sense that the writers just made it up to fit their needs for the movie.
The only collage we ever hear of in the show was Western Tech, which gain leans towards the Treasure of Atlantis being outside of the MacGyver universe.

Except it was never "destroyed". It still gets mentioned in later episodes. It's just that Pete and MacGyver moved over to the Phoenix Foundation.
If the new show isn't going to follow 30 years worth of established history they might was well just call it something else entirely and move on.

Yes, in Widowmaker when Pete is talking to Helen, he tells her to notify DXS about Murdoc. I just watched that episode about an hour ago, and I never caught that before.

I'm kinda working on that.

True.
And yeah, DXS is mentioned in all seasons.

i had no idea DXS was still around in the later seasons.. Well again these are just spit balling ideas technically all we know is the show will be a reboot of the 1980's tv show.
However the best reboots in my opinion use the mythology of the character but bring something new for example
Casino Royale Bond is still British and his military background is similar to Fleming but updated A LOT and he is still essentially bond however his first M is Dench's M which adds a new dynamic to the character (there are other additions as well Le chiffe working for a mysterious terrorist organization etc)
Batman Begins Once again Bruce's back story is left mostly untouched however now his greatest villain Ra'z Al Ghul also trained him and give him a hard choice (if they ignored the whole Rachel Dawes thing and added in Tailia perhaps played by Rosmund Pike the film would of been so much better because Ra's is the ultimate villain in the sense that if Bruce joined him he would have everything he could ever want Justice throughout the world A hot wife and in a weird way he would get his father back however joining Ra's he would truly be going over to evil)
these films represent in my mind the best of the reboots and what Macgyver should strive for give us the macgyer we know and love (raised by his mother and grandfather hates guns etc) but add something unique for example what if Murdoc was originally in DXS and worked alongside macgyver?
perhaps not but you get the idea I am going for I want new macgyver stories but I want something unique to bring Macgyver truly into the 21st century I think all of us would be upset if we just got the original series re filmed with a new actor with certain elements updated....
of course i need to point out the reason why i am taking this so seriously in my opinion with Wann and Gemell behind it CBS will at least show us a few episodes so no matter what Macgyver is BACK (at least for half a season if the new macgyver is good though we might get more which would also mean dare I hope blue ray for the orignal series with special features AND perhaps macgyver novels comic books video games action figures shirts etc)
So even if you hate the new show or dont want one we all kind of should because it will increase the odds of better Macgyver merchandise in various forms... just my thoughts anyways.
Also if i was a gambling man I would put at least 20 dollar on us finding out who the new Macgyver is before March 31st. (though my gut is saying sometime next week but i don't want to jinx it)
