it seems like a simple question but with the new series being green light what should it be called.

My honest opinion keep it simple and just call it MacGyver

but how does everyone else feel?

Just call it "MacGyver" . It works well

"Ok hotshot, so you got yourself a golden brown palomino between your legs, and NO reins. Now what?"

The trend for reboots is to use the same name, although I'd feel much more comfortable with this being called a prequel because that lends itself to the idea that it's explaining the early years of the same character rather than recreating the character - which is what rebooting implies - and I really hope this is a prequel rather than overwriting the character we already know.

But in either case I think just calling it MacGyver is fine.

Seriously?, KISS(Keep it simple ....) 'MacGyver' is the only option here.

How will we distinguish it from the original series though?

All shows carry their original copyright year.

So MacGyver (1985) & MacGyver (2016) will be distinguishable.

Well we, the fans, will probably resort to calling them the old and new series or the Original and new, or maybe even MacGyver 2016, but I think in the general public just the name MacGyver will do. It seems to have worked for other reboots without any problems.
