That's a good point. It seems Mac only minded gun usage when it wasn't in some sort of official capacity. I hadn't thought about that, but you're right.

I am still a little miffed that they took a seemingly different character and just slapped an old character's name on him(referring to Jack Dalton). Probably the same with Wilt Bozer too, who was a hillbilly with a boat, not Mac's roommate. If anything, it probably would have been better if Justin Hires was Jack Dalton.

I don't really care what they do with Wilt. He was pretty much a non-character in the original series. Aside from the two western episodes (which don't even really count since they were just dreams), I don't remember much of ANYTHING about Wilt. So, fine, use his name on a new character, no big deal. It's basically just an Easter egg for the few fans who remember the name, that's all.

But Jack Dalton was a pretty major character, so it's odd to just completely redesign him as the tough guy of the Mac & Jack team. I wonder if they would have been better off just keeping his name as Lincoln, and then bringing in a new actor to play an updated version of Jack.

I agree. I didn't mind new characters like Lincoln and it would have been better to introduce a more faithful version of Jack Dalton rather than renaming a very different character.

I guess they were in a pretty weird situation - they had to reboot the reboot and reshoot the pilot episode. They had finally found "their" MacGyver and a co-star he had perfect chemistry with - it makes sense not to lose them. But by rewriting the script, they also had to "reboot" the character of Lincoln; and instead of creating a new character, they just tweaked him a bit and slapped a well-known character-name on him.

I don't mind that New Jack Dalton isn't that guy wearing a pilot's jacket, pilot's hat and 80's moustache. He probably wouldn't fit into the 2016-version of a tv show anymore. But they just made Jack a totally new person. I understand that some CIA-Agent fits much better into "Team MacGyver" than a sometimes clumsy, greedy wannabe-pilot. But Jack was a well-loved character; so maybe they should have just made him a recurring character and not mesh him with the main co-star.

Maybe the "MacGyverettes" is the Opening Gambit? Better not; otherwise I'll expect McGruber to show up

Hmm... definitely better than the original "first look", but still need to see the whole episode first in order to understand the context of the scenes. I wouldn't say I'm totally ecstatic though, but could at least be a fun watch.

Looks action packed good, but they've still made him arrogantly smug and sure of himself!!

I'm sorry but I don't care how many MacGyverisms or names from the original show they throw in; MacGyver was not that smug about himself.

I think this one is A LOT better than the Unaired Pilot version; but it's still not different enough from any other action show. I can't feel the essence of being MacGyver and what makes him that special (because since the original show, they're have been other TV heroes being creative and inventive to get out of trouble).

While I don't see that many mean comments on Twitter as before (people stating they want punch him in the face), there still are some of them - mostly about how smug MacGyver seems. I don't know if these commenters are fans of the original and I guess it doesn't matter as much for new fans who have never seen the old show, yet I really don't think that's a good thing. There are enough cocky, self-assured white guys on TV already. Also, I think that part belongs to George Ead's character as Lincoln-Jack and maybe to Justin's version of Wilt Bozer.

I would say that Mac was the direct opposite, confident yet humble. That might just be RDA shining thru the character.

There's a fine line between being confident, being cocky or being downright arrogant. The whole MacGyver team seems too confident for me; the other team members already crossing that line.

But it's just a fast paced trailer; hopefully it doesn't come across that way in the episode.

Was Jack covering MacGyver with sniper fire? I don't know if I like that. Seems too dark and violent for MacGyver, and I don't think he'd ever ask anyone to shoot the bad guys for him.

I'd like to say again that I don't see the point in calling this guy Jack Dalton if he's some bad-ass spy who slaughters terrorists with a smirk. That is NOT who the character was at all, Lenkov. If you're just going to use the name and not the character, don't use the name at all. It's a hollow Easter egg.

And the "They've got this!" text on the screen just adds to that impression (not to mention the "This is how we do it" music in the background.)
I don't know... for all of Lenkov's talk about capturing the soul of the original show, this seems to miss the mark one of the basic aspects of MacGyver's soul. It could partly be the fault of the marketing department, though. Maybe in the show itself, the characters don't seem so overly sure of themselves.

MacGyver being a bit cocky doesn't bother me that much because he started off as being inspired by heroes with swagger like James Bond and Indiana Jones. Then he morphed into a completely inoffensive father figure to troubled teens. That's one aspect of this new show that I like is it's more inspired by season 1 and MacGyver is a spy/government agent again. I could just do without George Eads's gun-toting badass who acts nothing like Jack Dalton.
