I think you just hit the nail on the head Barry.
MacGyver was humble and on that point this new series appears to have completely missed the mark... AGAIN!
I guess it's not that easy to get this across the screen for a new action show in such a short trailer - especially if you try to introduce a whole new team to the viewers.
You're right, the old trailer was more Mac-centered; so we already see a new problem coming up if they're insisting on the concept of "Team MacGyver". It's a fine line adressing old and new fans alike; they're probably fearing introducing Mac as a nice, friendly and humble person would turn off a potential new audience or misleading the show as being action-drama (sadly, they seem to go for action-comedy-boooom!-action instead).
I think it's oooooooook for a first trailer to get the attention of potential new fans - IF they center more on Mac's character traits in subsequent trailers. Also, they HAVE to get it right in the pilot episode if they want to win over the old fans to watch the next episode (because I'm sure many fans of the old show will tune in anyway for the pilot).

You right KiwiTek, I'm afraid...
What's more, Mac looks in this like he is a part of DXS for years - too much confidence for someone who is "fresh meet" in job like that.
Dashborad, I'm afraid that the only way to bring old audience to the new show will be puting as much reference to the original as they can...
on the other hand I have to admit that I was very sad after watching trailer for the first time this morning, now watching it couple times more it doesn't look so bad...But maybe because I don't have too much expectation about it.

Still not sure what to think of it. I guess it's not very reasonable to judge such a short trailer anyway.
There are some great movies out there that had very crappy and/or even misleading trailers. And often the trailers and posters aren't even put together by the people that filmed, photographed and cut the movie, so...
Still don't like the music, though. At least they dropped the stupid line of the last trailer-song (I'm the baddest m... of the year). But this one isn't that much better...

But still, Oh God, I hate this poster soooo much!
I don't like the poster either. But I'm ok with as many crappy posters and billboards as they want as long as they get New MacGyver's character and tone right.
Although, I should be careful with these statements. Apparently, our opinions are not welcome to the "real" fans of New MacGyver. At least that's what I gathered since we've been called ungrateful jackaxxes today on Facebook and I was called a spoiled brat *polishing shiny badge of honor*
I'm glad we're able to have civil discussions in here. I've been part of a fandom that's not very liked out there and I know how it feels like when other people rant about and criticize something you love all the time. Yet we still can voice our opinions without being called names.

Yes that was RDoyles last post on our Facebook page. He can go and troll elsewhere.
I see some of you have been venting some frustrations about his posts here, which is fine to do, but I've moved all those posts into this thread so as not to go off topic here.

You're right.
I'm not sure what to think of the moment where he seemed to be outnumbered and easily take them all out. I don't mind fight scenes at all but he's no James Bond. Murderers' Sky 6 against 2. The Wasteland 4 against 1. Good, fun. Won one, lost one. But this seemed like a little too obvious where they got their inspiration from.
Again, don't judge a book by it's cover.

Actually I'm among of those guys who are waiting for this reboot and I'm for it since I've heard rumors about it.
The only moments I criticize is when I don't see that producers get MaGyver character right. That is why i don't like poster - I don't see mac on it but rather Jason Bourne, or something
Beside this I'm far away from judging this till I'll see it.
Fortunately I didn't notice on this forum anybody who criticizes reboot with such frustration like on the facebook, what I see is people who have their opinion whatever they like an idea of rebooting MacGyver or not but without insulting.
Thank you too Administrators!
P.S. I hope there are some real fans of reboot because i don't want to this show be canceled after 1 season...

Something I learned a long time ago is that there is an audience for everything. Even if it's panned by many peoples: fans, critics. There's always something.
And the unknown is easy to react ignorant on. Maybe the reboot will be a big success or maybe not. Maybe they'll make a big change towards the second season as well.
I wasn't in favor of the reboot initially, though it tickled my interests. Partly due RDoyle, I admit. Though there was no need to stuff it in our throats. Last trailer has given me doubts again however. Nobody just likes it when they're messing with the original material. I agree and understand. But I'm sure there will be people who will like it, no matter what.

I was actually getting excited about this for a bit, but the new trailer has me in doubt again. I hated the whole "team" situation in the new Knight Rider, and I think they're going to do exactly the same thing with this. Mac having a team is fine, as long as it isn't rammed down our throats and the show doesn't focus more on them than Mac.
I really didn't like that part about the trailer, and I really don't like Eads character or him being named after Jack Dalton.
Mac was kinda cocky in the original pilot, but I think this new version is even cockier - I'm not sure I like it, but we'll see after I watch the pilot.
Maybe I can see now why RDA didn't want to do it, though, as to me it seems like they're throwing fans of the original little "presents" but its just to appease us, and really they're doing it their way still. Lucas STILL doesn't FEEL like MacGyver when I watch, and this now has nothing to do with the actor, or his hair lol, its how they've got him playing the part/the script.
I will still be watching, may even like it, but I have the feeling I will see it as something else in my head, not MacGyver - because I still think they've missed the mark.

This all "cockiness" seems to be understandable issue right now. we have to wait and see.
The only thing that bothers me in Lucas as MacGyver is his voice. maybe it sounds stupid but really it doesn't feel right when you listen to him. He sounds soooo serious! maybe that is why he seems to be so cocky? maybe he doesn't act like that but his voice makes him looking like an arrogant guy.

I agree with you, MacDobromir. I re-watched the trailer. Besides, he's voice simply does not sound right, I pictured the way RDA spoke when I watched the trailer.
In any case, being reasonable they will obviously not sound the same. So I certainly cannot complain at all!

Well, anyway with all my sympathy to Lucas his voice doesn't fit for me, or in other words his voice does make him someone else but not MacGyver. Especially in this trailer.
Like Macgyver1985 I can't get rid a RDA voice from my head But I'm pretty sure I'll get used to Lucas voice if only he'll show a character of Mac with respect to the original.

If he sounded like RDA people would say he's trying to imitate him. It's kind of a lose-lose situation for Lucas.
We're going to have to accept some differences in this show. And lets be honest - we accepted differences in the original, like the 2 different ways Mac and Pete met and the back story of Mac (the man who hates guns and violence) being in the military. We accepted those and even came up with ways of rationalizing the differences.
I'm sure any differences we see in this new MacGyver will also be able to be rationalized in the same way.
But as others have said, we're really not going to be able to judge this until we actually see the episode. That's the only way we'll get to see everything in context and know what the story is...
My biggest concern from that preview is this looks and feels like so many other shows on the air right now.
"Team MacGyver" reminds me of all the current DC superheroes. Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl all have a backup team telling them how to fix a problem. I am a fan of those shows, less currently of Arrow, but it's getting derivative. Particularly now that all will be on the same network I hope they start to break out of that format on at least one of the shows.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Obviously MacGyver had friends and allies. But the basic idea was he could mostly fix any situation alone.
I really wish George Eads was called Pete Thornton. Would it be a perfect match, no. But him being an older friend, mentor would be closer. Only difference would be Pete would still be a field agent. But that was Pete's background on the orignal show. So at least the core of the character would be similar. Jack was the same age as Mac. I looked it up RDA is actually 6 months older than Buce McGill!
I really have no expectations for this show. I will probably give it a try. If I do not like it I will stop. But I will not waste my time going online to tell people who do like it they are wrong. My first impressions are they are trying to be influenced by too many other current shows. Those shows already exist.
Growing up during MacGyver's origninal airing one of its big appeals was the premise was so loose that stories could be completely different every week. Obviously he was sort of special kind of Spy. But he was much more than that. There been talk of this new series going back to the early DXS agent episodes. It's easy to say you now prefer those episodes in hindsight. But if the show had just stayed a generic SPY show would it have lasted as long as it did? Or be so fondly remembered decades later?

Just a little over month to go now.
But in those days there was no social media, let alone you could remember what happened in Deathlock when Partners was aired. Or you needed to have Deathlock taped on video and kept it the whole time. But even than, it wasn't until the internet came around I started to notice these inconsistencies.

Believe it or not but Jack is 11 months older than Mac in the timeline. Older does not mean more mature though.

I've seen several people suggest that, but I don't really get the connection between Eads and Pete Thornton. Although I don't think Eads captures much about Jack Dalton, I do think he's closer to Jack than he is to Pete. Eads is clearly quite the joker, and clearly very enthusiastic. I could much more easily see Eads taking all of Mac's stuff to an airport hangar, and then swinging down from the rafters with a rope around his ankles, laughing hysterically, just like Jack Dalton did, than I can see him being a bumbling worry-wart like Pete often was.

I saw a picture where George was sitting in same colored Wrangler, so I believe that could be from the reboot.

In some ways, Eads reminds me of Sam Axe from Burn Notice, who in turn is a bit Jack Daltonish himself, at least in personality.
Exactly!! I was trying to figure out who he reminded me of. I hope the new Jack character turns out to be lovable, from the little I've seen so far he seems arrogant and too flip.
