Those mini clips on the MacGyver On CBS Facebook page are actually quite cool. The one with the paperclip is very nice.

I don't think they catch exactly the MacGyver spirit, but I like the paperclip one, too.

If I didn't know at all who or what MacGyver was, I sure would be intrigued by these mini clips.

The idea for those clips was not so bad actually, but HOW they did it concerns me a little bit...

IMHO without "blinking", "rolleyes" and that kind of strange facial expressions it would look better, not so unnatural, like they were trying to hard. Because all of this makes Lucas looking arrogant AGAIN

I think You've got a fair point here. His confidence (even if there will be too much of it) will be bothersome the most when he will use it towards the others. and it appears from the trailers exactly opposite, as Mac is now a team player.

I'm going to miss that. MacGyver going solo. That was also part of the charm of the old series. MacGyver driving to some town completely on his own without anyone of the recurring cast.

Well, you never know... maybe they will have episodes where MacGyver is off by himself, and gets himself into trouble.

I think what I'll miss is how in the original MacGyver was always the one who did the rescuing, very rarely did he have to be rescued. This new show seems to be the opposite with Jack having to cover his back... it's like, is MacGyver so oblivious to his surroundings he can't take care of himself?

As with the trailer where he set off the alarm... I don't ever recall the original MacGyver setting off alarms, he was too observant. Of course, if I'm wrong... I'm blaming it on the fact I just woke up and haven't had coffee yet. lol

I think I made my point in the Promos thread.... this new MacGyver is based off Season 1 Mac, who was confident of his abilities and throw in a bit of youthful arrogance, and it makes some sort of sense. Context wise, I would need to watch the pilot to see if he really is arrogant, or if it's just how it's coming off because they're trying to charm people into checking the reboot out.

Either way, I'm trying not to complain very much...

That didn't bother me. I can't recall a speciifc case of him setting off an alarm in the original series (though I feel as if it MUST have happened at some point), but I'm fine with Mac occasionally making a mistake. In fact, I WANT him to occasionally make mistakes. The issue I have with how they're promoting this new Mac is that he seems toosure of himself, and the "Don't worry, they've got this" slogan makes it seem like the entire team is a little too perfect. So accidentally setting off an alarm is actually a good thing, I think.
But, rather than having him say "Oops!", he should have used the classic, "Ah, man..."

Alarms usually goes off unless he wants it to. One time was because of Jack. Other than that... maybe because of missing a camera and being waited by the window when he enters.

Well, that was just an example... My main point was is that I'm going to miss the dynamic of which MacGyver was basically the authority and was in charge. He is someone you could respect and listen to in a crisis.

If that role is going to fall on Jack, why on earth would I take the new MacGyver seriously?

It's more a respect thing, which is generally based on my own personal experiences. There is a reason why I love the original. Let's just leave it at that. =P

This is a CBS rebooted TV series of a 1980's show. The character analysis we are referring to here is not going to be covered. The people involved are trying to capture the feel of the original in terms of the action, story lines, MacGyverisms and look. Actual character behavior is rarely portrayed as authentically as originals go. But that is also because times change. Some (Not all) feel that the guy of the past might not fit in the world of today.

Ha! We've all been complaining about the characters' personalities being changed in this reboot, but with Penny, I hope they DO change her! (watch, this will be the one character that remains 100% true to the original....) Still, I'm glad to see she'll be turning up in this series.

Generally speaking, characters on tv today have a lot more depth than they did in the 80s, which is obviously a good thing, but you're right, the specific characteristics are likely to be different. So even though the characters on this show will almost certainly be deeper than they were in the original series, it remains to be seen if we'll like them as much.

In terms of action, I expect this show to be better than the original. Pretty much any time I see an action sequence on tv these days, it feels more cinematic and exciting than what shows were doing back in the 80s. Advances in filming techniques, stunt work, effects and higher budgets certainly help.

The obligatory "my first kiss flashback scene"... hm.

That's what I'm afraid of... I don't want a shallow shell of the original. I don't expect the reboot to be just like the original... but I do expect it to have some sort of personality. That was what the reboot of Knight Rider lacked... personality. I tuned out because it was just so... boring...

I've seen this happen with a lot of video game reboots as well...

I will miss many aspects of the original and if I had to choose between the two, I'd always pick the original... but so far, the reboot has promise. It seems to have it's own personality... and that's a good thing! I believe that production wise, it's going to far superior... but, looks aren't everything.

What I love about television is how they always makes the "awkward first kiss" really cute! It's not like that in real life......

Lenkov has done quite a good job at injecting his Hawaii 5-O reboot with personality, so that gives me hope. All of the main characters in that show have their own personal drama going on, which really fleshes them out. They also have plenty of quiet moments for conversations between the action sequences, which allows the characters' personalities to come through.
To be honest, I'd say the characters in H5-O are more fleshed out than Pete or Jack ever were in the original MacGyver, so I expect something similar for this reboot. I think Patricia Thornton and Jack Dalton will be more fully developed characters than their counterparts in the original series were.
So, despite not really liking the trailer much, I'm still clinging to hope....

Great point! He did an excellent job on HI-50 with the characters. Good character development. I am hopeful the can maintain the core essence of our beloved characters. I know there will be differences though, just hope that sense of optimism comes through
