I think we can go on and on about what the show's done wrong... I'm trying to focus on what the show's done right... sadly, its done more wrong than right... and that is what's killing it for me. HOWEVER, my sister is coming over tomorrow, and we're gonna watch the pilot together to get her opinion.
I think it is a personality thing. Lucas is "okay", but doesn't have the right delivery. RDA was much more personable and it sounded like he was talking to you, as if you were an old friend. Lucas just sounds like he's talking at you.
When you deal with as many people as I have, you can tell the difference... a bit hard to explain though.
The problem is that the scripts are convoluted with the team thing. You cannot focus on one character because there is always someone chirping on his shoulder or someone defending his back with a gun. There is no alone time to be drawn to the character. Lenkov keeps thinking this is Mission Impossible or H50. Its neither.

Exactly. Though there are shows out there that manage it despite doing the "team aspect"; so I expect the show to manage this, too - even if they keep insisting on doing the team thing....

Hopefully it has something to do with using it on Eads. There'll be a murder investigation and MacGyver 2016 will be locked up. Phoenix will close its doors.
Then! Out of the ashes, a man will walk through (RDA), a hero from the past to take on the mantle and give us some REAL entertainment.

If the story won't turn out like that, there's always FanFiction...

As someone said in another topic, if it didn't have the name MacGyver on it and I didn't run this site, I wouldn't still be watching it.
That was me. I agree with all your points -- I originally had little hope (especially after the first pilot) but after Lenkov got involved I got my hopes up a bit. As you said, they're really trying, but whether or not it gets good ratings it's not a good product in my opinion that is going to be talked about with reverence 30 years later. MacGyverisms are too fast, too many guns, weak music, and too silly/light-hearted (e.g. the money manager from the 3rd episode made me cringe).
And the character development is too forced and mechanical, like they're saying, "In episode 2 we need to explore Jack's past and have him tear up," and "In episode 3 let's start talking about MacGyver's father." I liked the way the original did it where pieces of his character were slowly revealed and sprinkled throughout.
I feel exactly the same. I have not been feeling it since the beginning. The charm of the original is just not there.
Personally, I hate Eads. With a passion.
Hate the team thing.
Hate the imbalance of centralizing the MacGyver character as the main topic but the show focuses on the other characters. So why call it MacGyver? Just call it team Phoenix.
Lol! I'm glad that you said you don't like Eads because I thought I was the only one. Every time I read a review it's about how everything sucks except Eads, but I can't stand him. I think he's cheesy. This whole reboot is cheesy. It looks like CSI Miami, and I hated that show. The whole team thing sucks, and it's really annoying to watch. The writing is bad, the acting is bad, and there is way too much violence and camera shots down the shirts of the women.
I absolutely love the original show, and was so excited for this new one, but I hate it. I watched the first and second episode, couldn't get past 20 minutes of the third before switching it off, and couldn't even get past 5 minutes of the fourth. I wanted to like the show so badly because it's MacGyver, but it's really not. Like other people said in the comments, CBS is just capitalizing off of the name. It has no resemblance to the original.
Why does everyone that makes a new version of an old tv show or movie think that they MUST change around all the characters and story lines?!?! No, you don't have to do that... You can just make an updated version of the show. You had 7 years of stories to use and just amp up, tweak a little, and make them a little better than before. But no, the studio had to change Mac's backstory, personality, and friends.
And can someone tell me why either he or someone else says Angus every 90 seconds!?!!!! Mac hated the name!!!
Ugh, I could go on and on. There's so much wrong and it pisses me off because I really wanted this to work.
It's safe and the train isn't moving, but I would never be able to do this! It's quite up high and it's not like the train roof is that big... It looks so smooth; they probably do that a lot for movies and TV shows.

David Dastmalchian guest stars as Murdoc, MacGyver's nemesis.

Bowzer is possibly leaving the show oh thank god Peter Lenkov I never should of doubted you!
I wouldn't be too excited yet - Justin Hires stated several times that his role will be expanded, so I'm pretty sure he will join "Team MacGyver" from now on *sigh*
Ever since we got the news that Wilt doesn't know MacGyver's true profession, I thought that MacGyver will have to save him somehow and then he will know, too... Guess I was right. Wish I wasn't *lol*
Well, since he's so good at creating masks, he could easily go undercover with Mac and the team...
