I like it.. It updates the story but stays true to its source material (for example macs parents are dead! He works for the Phonex foundation etc)

I am afraid many will hate the above but I say lets talk about it so what do you like/dislike about the new synopsis

The Phoenix Foundation existing is a good thing, but Mac being the one creating it? I don't know, I guess it could work.

I have a feeling we're not gonna see Pete, and this character Lincoln is the "new Pete".

I still maintain Pete might show up altough my new fear is with world building we might get spin off shows

Who is to say in this version that his father's friend won't actually BE Pete? I don't know, somehow, I kind of like that synopsis better than before. We get mention of the iconic knife, paper clip, Phoenix....now if only they'd lop some of Lucas' hair off and I might actually start to get excited! I know Mac had a mullet, but the hair in the promo really puts me off. Short hair in this re-imagining as everyone calls it, works better on Lucas. Just my opinion! But yes, I like that info a whole lot more than before!

I guess they have to leave several possibilties open; until after a few episodes they can decide where the show should go and what new characters to bring in....

As for the long hair well in the original 7 seasons Mac changed his hair style a lot so maybe Till's Mac will be the same and shorten it up for season 2.

I've been wondering about the hair... will there be another installment of the X-Men-Franchise; like maybe Lucas has to keep the hair a bit longer until the next movie?

Yes, I was critical - but I simply didn't personally like what I was reading. I loved Knight Rider as a kid, and was very excited about the reboot, but I thought the huge ensemble cast and sucky writing killed its chances. They got rid of that "ensemble" too late and the show bombed. (Shame, I got into it in the end!) The new Mac had an ensemble compared to the original, and I was honestly not liking it. The sound of the rehash, with more Mac, feels more I don't know, just better! Maybe CBS are correcting mistakes early on after viewing the pilot, and I can't argue with that. I feel sure they ARE checking out what people say online, even if they've kept show details under their hats.

I wish they would lose some of the hair, as I feel Lucas would look more grown up without it. Perhaps he has a reason after his time in the army (where he would surely have short hair) to rebel and go boy band lol! I guess we'll see.

Thew new details just appeal to me more, but some may hate them, you can't please everyone!

I must say, I am loving this new synopsis. It has certainly moved more towards the original concept I fell in love with as a kid. And personally, it makes more sense to try and stay as true to the original as possible, why also being mindful to modernising it for a new audience.

His hair... I'm not that worried about. But I was never gone on the mullet in the original, and never spoilt or bothered me.

OK so here's my problem.

I have seen another synopsis which says it's the DXS not the phoenix foundation, which makes me think these synopsis are being paraphrased or something.

This line worries me a little.....

That to me sounds like Scorpion which has already had MacGyver comparisons made against it previously, so I'm really hoping this new MacGyver is different enough that it doesn't get compared back to Scorpion.

My hope is Eads is there just to ease people into the new Macgyver and once fans accept and love till Eads will fade into the background

In the promo it does show Macgyver working a lot by himself.

It's funny how pretty much nobody likes his hair. I can pretty much guarantee he'll get a new hairstyle eventually. If CBS is goint going through the trouble of changing cast members, revamping the pilot, changing the synopsis, etc, then giving the kid a haircut is nothing by comparison. And, hey, even the original MacGyver went through several different hairstyles (and colors) throughout the course of the show.

People will always be critical of reboots. We all have been critical for obvious reasons. We want it to succeed but it has to be done properly. And when they do this or that wrong, and the show reaches a danger point of cancellation, we will point out the things they did wrong.

This reboot is by no means perfect. Anyone that actually agrees to that clearly is not a fan of the original. Still, I did say i would give it the benefit of the doubt with the pilot. And since they are rethinking the pilot, i will be rethinking my loyalty to it.

Did anyone else get that "Iron Man" feeling from watching it? Escaping his captors from some secluded base camp in a cave? And then the press. Tony Stark made an Iron Man suit. Mac joins a special "Team" (Team Knight Rider).

I would say The perfect person to play Jack Dalton is Bruce Campbell, but since he was already Sam Axe in the concept-similar Burn Notice, they would probably never cast him.

Bruce Campbell would rock but chances are he wont do it due to his commitments on the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series and of course as you so eloquently put it, Burn Notice.

Bruce Campbell is 57 years old. If they were going to choose somebody that old, they might as well just add a few years and get Bruce McGill back.
Personally, though, I doubt Jack Dalton will be in this series.

epguides.com have updated their forecast of upcoming shows and MacGyver 2016 has been listed however they seem to have info still based on the unaired pilot which will be sure to change when they get more info from the new pilot.

When was the first pilot scrapped, last month or this month? Because I feel like I've been reading about MacGyver founding an organization within the government for quite a while, so I'm not sure if it's from the first pilot or the new one.

I could not figure out why George Eads was being cast as Jack Dalton. I mean.... George is.... maybe late 30's early 40's (He was on CSI for many years....) didn't make sense.

Now I think I get it. Apparently, Jack Dalton is not the young MacGyver's friend, but friend of FATHER (old MacGyver.....)

Ok, I can deal with that..... interesting premise....

We still do not kn ow if this will be a continuation of the original show. There are some clues that could possibly hint to it but nothing has been cast in stone. From what we know, it is probably a reboot.

If George Eads being Jack Dalton is meant to imply this is a continuation, he's still kind of an odd choice. Eads doesn't really seem anything like an older Jack Dalton. And if the character is still meant to be like MacGyver's partner who goes on all his missions with him, that isn't really particularly Dalton-like either. It strikes me as a poorly thought out name change. He really should have been reimagined as Pete Thornton, even if that means Pete is buff and sexy this time around. But as I said in another post, maybe Pete will show up somewhere down the line.

Peter Lenkov praised the chemistry of George with Lucas - I guess that's the main reason (besides being a talented actor, I hope) why they kept him in the original cast after scrapping the pilot shot by David VonAncken despite picking up the show for a first season.

Making George's character turn into Jack Dalton was probably the easiest way to get those two the most screen time. We'll see how it turns out...

I always hated the name Lincoln for Eads character. I was delighted that they named him Jack Dalton. Pete was always an older character - and I wouldn't underestimate Peter Lenkov, perhaps the next wave of announcements will confirm that a strong male mature actor will play the role of Peter Thornton - head of operations at the DXS? They may decide to make the character of Pete, more boss-like and not so much buddy best friend.

Kudos to Eads, he recently bought the box set of MscGyver, and vowed to watch all the episodes before taking on the role. He wanted to spot all the Easter eggs, Peter drops into this new series. I too have taken up this challenge !

I'd like it if MacGyver and Pete start off with a less personal, more professional, maybe even often contentious relationship at first but gradually become close friends over the course of the show. Essentially, he'd transform from Dana Elcar's character in the pilot to the Pete Thornton we all know and love.

Ok, wasn't sure where elase to comment on this but since we're talking the trailer/promo for the pilot...Anyone else catch what sounds like an Abba riff when Mac is in the back of that truck, just prior to it going over the cliff (parachute scene)???

Not a bad idea. And I think it's quite possible we could get something like that. Back in the 80s, TV characters didn't really evolve much, so Mac & Pete were just always good friends. These days, shows tend to have more overarching threads, so I think we're more likely to see their relationship change over the course of time.
