I hope he knew what a valuable contribution he made to popular culture. People who aren't fans think yeah,

fire to stuff. But you could take away all the science bits and
would still stand out as an adventurer who wanted to help the world rather than to have sex with all female characters in the right age group and then plant a nice little Union Jack on top of the world and say something about "for Queen and country".
I was trying not to be rude about Bond, James Bond, but it just came out somehow. They're very entertaining films. And they have tried to make them less sexist and so on. But I prefer Mac. He's not trying to save the world so he can plant a small US flag on it and have sex with all available female characters. He cares.
I feel very happy that a group of male producers could sit round a table and say, look our hero is brave and adventurous but without annoying machismo sexist attitudes. And that they made it work - particularly as most of the writers are/were male.
