I finally got around to watching Narcos on Netflix.
For those that don't know, Narcos is the story of the illegal drug trade in Colombia focusing on the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar brilliantly played by Wagner Moura. Show is already in its third season but i have enjoyed what i have seen so far. It's a gritty show and tells a hard story that is tainted with censorship especially on what is told and what isn't. 4 stars from me.

Just finished Kingdom Hospital. A tv-show from the early 2000's but a real poor one written by Stephen King based on Lars Von Triers Danish show The Kingdom. It took me nearly three weeks to finish the 13 episodes. It was incoherent most of the time and didn't find the balance between drama, suspense and comedy. The drama was spot on but then it got lost between suspense and comedy. Pity, this series was partly autobiographic for Stephen King due to his accident but this was such a miss. Don't waste your time on it unless you want to go look for Mac-actors. There are 5 of them and I missed two.

Still grazing through Columbo. Last one was good called Identity Crisis with special guest star: Leslie Nielsen. This was his second guest appearance in the show. He was playing a spy who gets killed by his superior and Columbo has to solve the case again. It looks like Columbo speaks fluently Italian. It was already hinted on his Italian roots in one episode but now for the first time he spoke Italian. There was this scene in which he spoke Italian with a man and they went all Italian in mannerisms. On his way out Columbo asked if he could take some more grapes and the other guy gave a handful of blue and white grapes and he was going like: 'Nooooooooo, it's too much.' It was a good episode.

Another great episode of Columbo written by Brad Radnitz. In A Matter Of Honor Columbo is on vacation in Mexico when a famous matador kills one of his men and Columbo is requested by the Mexican captain to help in the case. Starring Ricardo Montalban and a young A. Martinez.

I love Colombo! For that matter, I love all those 70's shows. We just finished watching Kolchak, the early 70s series from CBS about the newspaper reporter that tools around in the mid 60's Mustang with a scanner hard wired to the underside of the dash. It's an innocent kind of fun!

Columbo started kinda of slow but since the last few episodes of the second season most episode are pretty well paced despite the lack of spectacle, gunfights or fist fights. For some reason season 4 was not aired here because there was a reference in this episode about a murder he solved on a cruise in less then a day or something. But you really got to pay attention to what's happening though because Columbo catches his killer on mistakes, even the smallest tiniest mistake and sometimes I wonder what it was but still a very good show.

When it's over, it's over. Can't go back to redo it all. Somethings just happen once in life. You can try to get it back but it will never be the same. Interesting is though that also Dallas was restarted. Don't know if it's a reboot or a continuation but by now it has reached his third or fourth season so there must be something they're doing right.
I don't know. If it's done properly, but what is properly? You can put as much work in it as you like, sometimes it just doesn't work no matter how hard you try. They gotta learn to leave well enough alone.
Of course there is perhaps one major exception... actually the one I'm watching: Columbo. And I'm still curious about why it is, but I want to see the show first. Columbo had 7 seasons in the 70's, yet they decided to continue the show in 1989 after an 11-year break. Maybe they were lucky Peter Falk was still alive and he was willing to do more episodes over a longer period of time. Last few episodes I've seen again showed a few familiar names. Now I just found out the episodes are not exactly shown in order. Not that it matters because they are stand alone episodes. But these episodes where shown in this order: Murder: A Self Portrait which was written by Robert Sherman. Sex and the Married Detective was written by Jerry Ludwig and starred Peter Jurasik (Charlie Alden) in a minor role. The last episode I've seen was Grand Deceptions. An opening sequence similar (almost identical) to that of The Wall episode. Toy soldiers on a battlefield and it makes me wonder if it's not the exact same model we saw in The Wall. The model of the battlefield of Gettysburg. First thing I was thinking about was The Wall's theme song when the episode started. Maybe it was the same model and brought it over to Paramount for The Wall episode. Getting more and more curious on what's in store for the 90's episodes.

Dynasty is a total reboot. There are a few nods to the original.
It follows a similar path and ill be honest, its nothing like the original. It kind of reminds me of MacGyver in a way because its done the same way. But if you're not comparing it to the original, it might just take to your liking. If you are into this kind of show.
Dallas reboot lasted for 3 seasons and then was cancelled. Unfortunately when Larry Hagman passed on during season 2 it could not sustain its audience. After all, he was the only JR. And yes it was an actual continuation ignoring the reunion movie/s.

Last episode was called Columbo Cries Wolf co-starring Alan Scarfe. In my opinion one of the better. I always wondered when there will be an episode like this. An episode in which he's been taken advantage of or made a fool of or can't solve the case. This episode had an interesting twist though but of course he wouldn't be Columbo if he can't solve the case.

Started to watch The A-Team now, also recorded from television. Unfortunately they didn't air season 5 for some reason. Already seen a couple of familiar faces: Alan Fudge, Richard Romanus, Don Stroud and Kristen Meadows (and she was hot by the way). I can also see some similarities with MacGyver, like escaping out of jams, even making something out of nothing. Somethings just seemed like copied out the A-Team for MacGyver. The ultra light airplane? Seriously? In the first season when the A-Team is in Borneo (or was it Guatemala?) they have to evacuate a wounded man by making an ultra light airplane. Seven years later this is done by MacGyver in Colombia. Coincidence? Copied? What the A-Team does, I do not consider MacGyverisms yet, they mostly reinforce stuff by armoring cars or trucks and create a lot of brouhaha around it while MacGyverisms are mostly science but I'm only in the beginning of season 2 yet. The last episode I've seen did remind me a bit of The Road Not Taken as Face's ex-girlfriend sends him a letter to bring the A-Team to Ecuador to rescue the orphanage from a bunch of bad guys that seeked refugee there when their leader is healing from a gunshot wound. An orphanage, an ex-girlfriend who became a nun... There is probably more like that, that might look similar but I don't think the creators of MacGyver did those things intentionally. Both from different studios and I think you really had to have seen an episode on tv to know what the other guy is doing. But the ultra light airplane was the most noticeable. A two seater, even the reddish look was the same. The A-Team also seems to favor the use of duct tape. On the other hand they also seem to be favoring the use of heavy artillery in public areas. They're not just bringing pistols but there are scenes where they take out rifles out of the back of the van. In an episode set in New York they throw grenades and empty their rifles in a public street and in the last episode I've seen Hannibal sitting on a chair behind an armor, firing two rifles in an orphanage. In like every episode they fight out their own little wars, yet they never kill anybody. Interesting though to see another show that seems to take place all around the world like MacGyver and in very different countries too.

A-Team was fun. Apparently George Peppard was a real pain in the butt. Never got on with anyone. Demanding actor and he constantly feuded with Mr. T. He was even up for the role of Blake Carrington in Dynasty but after he started complaining of how his character should be during production, they "Fired" him and replaced him with John Forsythe.

I heared something like that. At one point George Peppard and Mr. T. where communicating through letters delivered by other cast members or something. I'll dig into that when I'm done watching.

Yes, they were. Besides, did you notice Murdock is wearing the same shirt in a couple of season 1 episodes as Mac wore in the Pilot episode? Meanwhile familiar faces keep piling up. In the last episode it was Lance LeGault, Charles Napier, John Vernon (bad guy of Rambo part II who was also named Murdock and Reyerson from the Gauntlet teams up). This was currently the best episode I have seen. While they're on the run for Colonel Decker, they hide in a little town where the people are being oppressed by the richest man in town. Sort of like the Bitter Harvest episode. Farmers and fieldworkers who are being treated unfairly and have to give in their money and food and the A-Team has to organize a union to protect the workers. Also among the farmers was actress Penny Peyser. Six years younger than in The Battle of Tommy Giordano but still as cute as she was. It was Mary Ruth. Couple of great van stunts too on their chases. Also the other episode I've seen The Taxicab Wars was among the better episodes with Michael Ironside and Herman The German as guest stars.

I just saw the coolest stunt ever in The A-Team. You just got to see the episode for yourself when they meet Tawnia Baker for the first time.
Also yesterday, I think I saw the best Columbo episode yet: Rest In Peace, Mrs. Columbo. I really recommend that one to watch.

I just found season 1 of 'Get Smart'. It's the antithesis of MacGyver. He's ridiculous, idiotic, stupid, has bouts of 'senior moments' at the most inopportune times, and the only time his improvisations work is when he accidentally trips them. It's also well written and funny as hell. The sets are meticulously filled with curious, artifacts, and (now 50 years on) antiques. Don Adams' is hilarious! I recommend this to all MacGyver fans if only for the contrasts of the theatrical secret agent world.

The A-Team is going great. They have good episodes and the faces and now also location keeps piling up. There was an episode they destroyed the military base from Obsessed. I saw the house of the Bennett's from The Prodigal and I think I saw the cave entrance from Good Knight MacGyver but I'm not sure. The cave entrance might as well been the same of the Power Rangers. Robert Donner and Marshall Teague has guest starred in some episodes. In the Marshall Teague episode they put up an Irish pub in like 5 mins. It's amazing what the A-Team can do in a day. Setting up a fully functional, decorated pub with fresh painted walls, tables, chairs, bar and booze. These guys should've have their own construction company, don't you think?

Still a lot of episodes seems the same. They get called to help someone out, there's a first fight, they construct something: mostly armoring cars, bit of shooting, car stunt, a second fight, bad guys are defeated, episode ends. Currently I'd give the A-Team a third place in my top 3. Guess what's on number one, closely followed by Magnum? There's not one episode that has really jumped out or that blew me away but of course it's nice to see familiar faces. Last night I saw another two episodes. One that seemed based on Split Decision where B.A. has to box (also notice the big guy from Bitter Harvest in a cameo) and one episode based on Black Rhino. The A-Team are going after poachers in Kenia with another interesting face... Aunt Viv from the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

Lots of shows are formulaic. Its a method they can relate to.And while lots of people have got something to say about it (More nowadays than before, i think), they still had that fan-base.

I think it's probably one those of parts of the formula that seems recurring in several other shows even if it's just episode titles like: The Enemy Within, There But For The Grace (Of God) or Squeeze Play.

While going through The A-Team, I've been saving up some episodes of Columbo but for some reason it didn't record the episode last Saturday. I still have like 10 unseen ones though. Another great one I've seen last night: again Marshall Teague shows up but the biggest and best surprise until now was. This episode starred James Read(!!) whom we all know as George Hazard from North and South. Read played a dentist who is on the verge of losing his dentist office he runs along his in-laws and ends up killing his wife's lover trying to put the blame on her.
Seriously, I'm telling you, with so many things set in Los Angeles, I'm surprised there haven't been more crossovers. Imagine if MacGyver saw the A-Team van passing through the street or read about them in the newspaper or when he calls the cops he doesn't end up with Rhome or Murphy or Kiley but gets Columbo on the phone or maybe even Riggs and Murtaugh... That would've been so hilarious.
