Just watched Strictly Business again and found a few interesting points of discussion. Mainly on when Murdoc fires a rocket at Mac. Mac stops a moment and attempts the turn the car back in the other way when he sees Murdoc getting ready to fire.
Now it makes me wonder. What would you do? You're driving on the road and you see Murdoc or your own arch enemy blocking the road with their truck and aiming a rocket launcher at you. What do you do? Would you turn the car around and drive back the other way or would you floor it instead and pass on the side as I've noticed that despite Murdoc is blocking the road with his truck, there was plenty of space left the drive off the road and pass the truck.
It got me wondering. And strangely enough, I thought I would make a go for it. Floor it and pass on the side. There is plenty of room on both sides. I'd pass it and probably give him the finger as well. Murdoc is carrying the rocket launcher and has to make a 180° turn and aim again. Maybe he doesn't expect it that the target would floor it.
Mac makes a logical move like perhaps most people would, stop and look and when he sees the danger drive back. If he floored Murdoc probably didn't fire or maybe he did and gets blown away from the explosion. I can think of a few scenarios like he would not fire or that he would or I'd scrape his truck so he gets thrown off. But I think I'd stick with my original one I would floor it and pass him on either side and no damage done. A chase might be a consequence and than I would try to lose him than. Of course it's a truck vs. a pool car but maybe fire extinguisher fluid might help.
Just thinking, what would you do?
And is it me or is there a connection to a classic movie? Pete tells Mac to go to a safe house on Overlook(?) Mountain and he ends up in a summer camp (hotel?) that is being take care of during the winter by a woman as a care taker with her daughter who just knows Murdoc can't be trusted and will do something awful (psychic?) and they put Mac in a guest cabin and she tells her daughter not to go there... that is what... room 217? I mean Shining much?
And what's the point of locking him in there if he can get out the way Amy came in?
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. I don't either but if I would, I'd probably floor it, to pass him.

I think my first reaction would be to try and run over Murdoc. Mac would probably not do that. I appreciate Mac's ideals, but sometimes I think he should have been slightly more violent. Like if he had hit someone and they'd fallen over. I'd probably have gone over whilst they were down and kicked them a few times. Not for the sake of it, just to make sure they wouldn't be getting up and fighting me any time soon.
I think I'd go backwards, but I wouldn't turn the car around until I was around the bend. Turning the car around slowed him down too much. Rather, he should have slammed the car into reverse, gone back around the curve in the road so that he was out of the rocket launcher's line of sight, and THEN turned the car around and sped out of there.

I think I would of done what mac did. If you floored the car at murdoc to go around, you would only make it an easier target to hit as you get closer and murdoc has no problem blowing himself up to get mac as well. I think reversing makes the target grow smaller. I would have tried to just keep reversing though to get out of site and then turn around
Now technically I'm driving a stolen car following a kidnapping... and I didn't even get to have my first cup of coffee. (Mac) Your burning hot MacGyver... And so is Pete! ! (Murdoc) Does anyone have a knife?? Yes...it has lots of different blades (Macgyver music plays while mac examines the knief) ...I know Why are you taking your pants off?? You got a better idea? I'm still trying to figure out what yours is!!

I think at that point Murdoc wanted to cleanse his record by killing MacGyver, if he would die himself there's not much joy to it for him. He wanted to show HIT he's not over the hill yet. He was too determined in wanting to die himself that time.
Ever thought by reversing the car you're doing exactly what he wants? It's a logical move, everyone would do. But I keep thinking if he'd just floored it, Murdoc wouldn't expect that. Even if he passed by, Murdoc still has to turn around carrying this big weapon on his shoulder. Of course we'll never know.

I voted for drive backwards but, if it really came down to it, I'd probably exit the car as fast as possible, jump the guard rail and hightail it into the woods. It would present a smaller, moving target and would probably catch Murdoc off-guard. Then, in five seconds, I'd have trees for cover and a pretty good head start. Murdoc would probably pursue on foot using his tracking abilities. So, I'd leave some dummy trails and fake markings to throw him off, which would give me the opportunity to circle back to his truck, disable it, get in my car, leave him in my dust and find somewhere else to disappear to. Now, of course, none of that would go according to plan so, I'll just stick with driving backwards.
"How do you come up with this stuff?" - Lisa Woodman "The stuff's already here. I just come up with a different way to use it." - MacGyver
"Remember me, MacGyver? When last we parted, I had a couple of broken bones and you left me with a whole lot of burnt flesh!" - Murdoc

That's even better. Just simply get out. It wasn't his car to begin with anyway.

You will have to come to a complete standstill to shift in reverse, I would preferably accelerate, and attempt to bypass Murdoc, but, if you happen to be in a higher gear approaching an incline you will most likely lose speed and have to downshift to a lower gear, however, if there is enough momentum then I would suggest you floor it!
You could have successfully circumvented Murdoc (narrowly escaping death), or you could wound up dead. Nevertheless, I agree that there are several other ways of avoiding Murdoc.
Another alternative is to ditch your vehicle and run towards the woods, Might be the safest option! It greatly depends on your reaction and timing in such situation.
Generally speaking reversing seems fatuous as you have to stop and shift into reverse. Moreover, the vehicle is also stationary for a few seconds, giving Murdoc the ideal opportunity to take the shot and eradicate MacGyver forever!
Therefore I will go with - floor it and pass on the side!

MacGyver was slowing down when Murdoc started to aim so by the time he hit the guard rail it was already too late.

I cannot accurately remember what happened in the episode after he abandoned his vehicle (Only watched the entire season last year) Although, I do remember him running towards the woods to escape Murdoc.

If someone's pointing an RPG at you the LAST thing you want to do is get closer to them. This gives them a better bigger target to aim at.
Probably his best option would be to just keep reversing back up the road as fast as he could, but really he had nowhere to run. Murdoc obviousness picked that spot as an optimum point of attack.
Mac did the best he could do for his level of driving skill and the (road) situation at hand ... an attempted J-turn .... but he ran out of real estate due to the curve/guard rail. Of course, if he succeeded ... it kind of 'blows' the whole scene. So, all in all, a well thought out & choreographed clip.
The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination.
Whether you think you can or you can't .... you're probably right!
