My first post here. Can't believe it's been so long seeing as I was four when the show started and have now been a fan for some 25 years.

Anyway, I'm also a big hockey fan and this is interesting since the MacGyver character (like RDA) was very into hockey. I just saw one of the early episodes where he's sporting a Calgary Flames cap, for example.

I thought I'd try and map out what other episodes MacGyver is wearing/watching/playing or in any other way expressing his passion for hockey. Do you know of any? And how is it manifested?

Flames End
MacGyver is playing table hockey against his Landlord Susan while wearing Canadians hockey gear.

The Eraser
The episode opens with MacGyver playing hockey with a team he calls the squires.

Later in this episode we see MacGyver playing table hockey against Jimmy to decide who washes the dishes and talks about his dream of being in the Olympic team.

Phoenix Under Siege
This episode centers around MacGyver and Grandpa Harry trying to get to a hockey game.

Thin Ice
MacGyver stands in for his old hockey coach in Minnesota. This is where we hear how he broke both arms and couldn't make it into the Olympic team. Based on RDA's real life experience as a teen.

The Negotiator
Deborah pains a picture or RDA playing hockey.

Rock the Cradle
Uses hockey sticks to make a bassinet for the baby and at the end of the show has the kid shooting with a little hockey stick on the kitchen counter.

Runners
Jennifer comes down wearing an LA Kings hockey Jersey.

The wall
At the end of the episode we see MacGyver playing a video game of hockey.

Harry's Will
Harry's clues lead MacGyver to skate around on his ice rink with puck and stick and have flashbacks to MacGyver playing peewee hockey.

The Lost Amadeus
MacGyver mentions to his neighbor about going with him to a hockey practice, to which the neighbor replies "no way. I've seen how you come back from these." and then mimicked an old man hobbling along.

Jerico Games
I think the kid MacGyver puts up is a player from the Russian hockey team or something and the coach for the team is an old hockey friend of MacGyver's.

Walking Dead
MacGyver goes into Mama Lorraine's herbal remedy store to get something for his aches and pains from hockey.

I'm sure there are other mentions and examples which others will pitch in with, but these are the ones which stick in my memory at this time of night.

Just a few crumbs you left for us: in 'The Negotiator' before Deborah shows Mac the picture she's drawn of him as a hockey player, Mac is working on the drawing of a hockey goalie and makes a joke about hockey goalies not moving a lot. Earlier on, when Deborah is prowling around in the houseboat she touches Mac's hockey jersey. And when she's reading the article about acid rain, there's a book on the shelf with a hockey player on the cover.

'Strictly Business': MacGyver comes home, carrying hockey gear.

And another, very small crumb: in 'Halloween Knights' we can see three hockey sticks sticking out of Mac's belongings in the hangar. Other episodes have scenes inside the houseboat with hockey gear lying about – but maybe that is too small to be included in this thread?

Wow, I'm impressed. Had no idea it was that much. Thanks a lot for all the great tips, I just got the remaining 4 seasons on dvd for xmas, so I'll be sure to check all these ep's out tonight. Any other user want to chip in, feel free to.

Oh and in Soft Touch we see a Hockey goal set up in MacGyver's loft.. actually it has Pennys clothing hanging on it to dry in this episode.

I can't help thinking we see that hockey goal sitting there in other episodes from season 2 as well.

Maybe I dreamt this, but I seem to also remember a quick flash of a hockey jersey with MacGyver on the back, lying in some box or something? Anyone recognize this? Know what episode it might originate from? I distinctively remember a jersey with his name on the back somewhere, somehow...

EDIT: I am not saying this is from the "Soft Touch" episode, just some random one. Thought I'd clarify that.

We see MacGyver on the back of the jersey Jennifer wears in Runners. We also see his name when he's playing hockey in The Eraser.

I think we also see his name shown when Deborah looks at his jersey in The Negotiator; or maybe Jack of Lies, or possibly The Enemy Within when he's moving house.

Jack of Lies sounds familiar... does any action take place in a hangar in that one? I seem to remember a box in a hangar... maybe that's it? It's def. not in Negotiator though, just saw that one and there's no name on the jersey when she breaks into Mac's house. Or at least you don't see it.

EDIT: Yes, it was "Jack of Lies", the blue/red/white jersey with MacGyver on the back is hanging in an airplane hangar along with Mac's other stuff that Jack has moved there.

Good one! The hockey jersey is not just lying in one of the boxes inside the hangar, though. Jack has planted the jersey outside, as a clue for MacGyver. It gets a nice close-up when Mac picks it up. All Mac's other belongings are inside.

Nah, it was hanging inside the hangar. Here's a screenshot:

Isn't that outside the hanger? He uses one of those tubes to unscrew the light bulb by the door doesn't he?

Exactly, KiwiTek. And having turned off the light, he has to get rid of the bucket of water Jack has placed over the door. Once Mac has done that, he can safely step inside.

If that's the case, I must've misinterpreted what went on before he actually saw Jack, sitting on a ledge under the roof or something.

I just watched that part of the episode again myself and the picture shown above is before MacGyver enters the warehouse or sees Jack.

Alrightey. Well, I've always liked that episode.

Ehm, apparently no one believes me when I say it – twice

I found another hockey moment, Doctormirabilis: In 'The Hood', when Mac is moving into his new house, he takes a hockey jersey from a box and looks at it for a while. It is mostly red and white, and bears his name.

Really? Cool, I'll check that out tonight.

I just found another one.

In the Pilot episode at the end when MacGyver is playing basket ball with Reggie we can see a bag with hockey gear in it against the wall and a hockey stick leaning against the door frame.

That's great! So the hockey theme is there from the beginning.
I like that. Every time I think we've covered them all, yet another one pops up.

What a classic! For those who didn't recognize it - Mac is parodying the Mackenzie Brothers, a Canadian comic duo from the early 1980s - as he plays table hockey with Susan. The helmet he is wearing is a Cooper SK 2000 helmet - painted black so as to remove the Cooper logo. This style helmet was made famous by Edmonton Oiler star Mark Messier who was the most prominent player to make it apart of his game equipment.

The episode "Early Retirement".

I'd say, the episode with the most hockey would be Thin Ice.

The first eps that came to mind was thin ice and early retirement.

The Madonna: Mac & Father Pat briefly reminisce about their personal battles in hockey games of yore back in Minnesota.

At the end of the High control episode Mac wears nice Chicago Blackhawks jacket.

Another reference is in There But For The Grace with the code word "Black and Blue" from back in their hockey days.

In the episode Hearts of steel when Lisa´s father calls MacGyver for help, Mac is taping his hockeystick.

I watched a snippet of MacGyver's Women last night (after watching The Wall ) and when Mac walks in to the houseboat, Jennifer comes down wearing an LA Kings hockey Jersey, again as she did in Runners. She must like it
