I kinda like the concept of just having one of the Coltons on set this time, instead of all of them, especially if it's Riley's boyfriend. That kinda leaves room to develop the characters as individuals, instead of just part of the clan.

True. Makes him more interesting being an individual instead of one of the Coltons.

On the other hand, it looks like it's a sneaky way for CBS to get their wish for more team members and parallel storylines. If they have Riley and Billy doing their thing, they can add Bozer/Leanna and Mac/Jack plus Matty and Jill in all kinds of combinations, making it again not just 2 but 3 storylines every episode.

I don't like the idea of multiple storylines... They have enough trouble making 2 story-lines work, let alone more.

I HATE multiple story lines. It's as if the writers forgot the show is called Macgyver. Maybe I'm in the minority but I think watering down Mac's role will ruin the show. IMO the other characters exist to help Mac when he needs it. I don't care about Riley and Billy ( and PLEASE no more elwood) and I can only take Bozer in small doses. i hate the addition of Leanna. Totally superfluous. She adds nothing. Besides doing little promotion for the show CBS is doing harm with all these characters.

I'm not very fond of it in general either, but it also depends on the show.

Clearly, the MacGyver Writers haven't mastered it yet. They tend to focus on the B-storylines; making them bigger than necessary. Or they actually add a third, not granting the actually also interesting B-storyline the focus it deserves. Funny how sometimes the Opening Gambits are more interesting than the B-Storyline, or how the B-storyline sometimes deserve to be the main storyline.

I think that's a result of so many people working on the same script and/or so many people bringing great ideas into the room. They often cram too much into one script - as if they are scared the show gets cancelled before they can see their ideas come to fruition.

Yes, sometimes shows get unexpectedly cancelled. Yet I still think that storylines and actors deserve the focus on them so they can shine. I'm still sure that slowing the pace of the reboot; maybe even bringing less people in wouldn't hurt the show. (Not just less guest-stars or regular cast members, but also less "powers that be". Why does this show need like 20 producers???) I think it would actually raise the value if the stories and actors can bring their full potential to the stage.

Been thinking about the plotline for the Season 3 Premiere Episode...

So based on the BtS photos and spoilers we've seen so far, I put together some overview how the storyline might go before we actually get our first Press Release. Because those always ruin the fun of speculation

Feel free to add some of your theories here as well ;-)


Opening Gambit
> Outside Nigeria Village
> MacGyver and his girl enjoying some one-on-one-time
> MacDaddy showing up in his helicopter, telling MacGyver that Jack is in trouble and he needs to come back
> Mac not wanting to go with Dad, but girl saying he should go (since she all knows about Jack and how important he is for Mac and that the problems with his Dad shouldn’t influence his decision to go or not)
> Mac telling Dad he's just coming back for this single mission to save Jack, then he’s going back to Nigeria
> Mac saying goodbye to the girl, promising to come back and getting the necklace
> Mac and Dad flying away in the helicopter

insert Opening Title

Cut to: Mac coming into the War Rom, saying hello to Team Phoenix (sans Jack)
> everyone hugging Mac and joking about the caveman look and asking about the necklace
> Matty briefing the Team

i like these speculations. Maybe saving dad is episode 2. I can't help but think Walsh is involved. I do hope Mac returns to Nigeria. Not to do so would not fit who he is. That narrative arc needs a just conclusion (or continuation). She's very pretty btw. Just lose the facial hair

Looks like Bozer is going back to school undercover. Does Nancy Kiu know what show she's writing for? I have great misgivings about this episode.

I think it's actually all of Team Phoenix (sans Jack) going undercover at College. As far as I know, all of them besides George Eads have been on set at Emory University last Saturday.

I have misgivings about anything she writes. She loves Riley and Bozer (AND SHE LIKED CAGE) and apparently has no idea that Mac and Jack are partners. She loves to write Jack as Riley's doting father and I assume since Billy Colton seems to be on this one (Is that right, Dash?) that Jack will act foolish and be made to look stupid an inept as he has in so many other episodes she has written. I know she is an exec producer, but sometimes I feel she has no clue about the show. I know they insist on giving each actor 'an episode' of their own, but I just want more Mac. Sigh.

So I'm curious as to what you and others think the time jump may be here? Three months? Six? I hope its not longer than that. And I'm confused is Jack still with Phoenix? Or is he working with the CIA. My problem is with Jack staying I guess, but this is where my fanfic loving heart conflicts with the real world.

I don't mind the love interest, but don't want Mac having a permanent girlfriend. I hate the beard, not sure that was necessary to show he was living a different kind of life. He just looks unkempt. lol

I still want to trust Peter Lenkov and O'neill because I usually like their writing but I don't want Mac to disregard all the years he and Jack spent together, for a girl he just met. I also don't see him picking his father over Jack, but like you, could see how he would feel guilty about it. And I wonder if his father might not die, prompting him to continue on at Phoenix. Not sure about that one.

They seem to do "real" time in the episodes (e.g. the 3-episode-story-arc for Bozer was also 3 weeks of spy-training). So I'm assuming the time lapse will be about the same as the time between the S2 Finale and the S3 Premiere (June-September). But who knows. They could try something different this time...
