A friend of mine always deliberately inserts a spelling or grammatical error in her newsletters to parents. Then when they tell her about the mistakes she knows it has been read.
Was that what you were doing Kyrian? Checking to see if anyone read the posts properly.

I came across a message on the internet that said something like as long as you have the first and the last letter of a word correct, people could still understand, no matter what alphabets you put in between. I will post it up if I could find it from my unorganized mailbox.

I think that's how human brain works ... cuts the useless details and concentrates on the essential parts such as .... MacGyverisms!!

I used to pride myself on being a good speller, but it really doesn't seem to be that important after all.

I guess as long as people understand the message that's what's most important.

The human mind really is an amazing thing!

Does this type of 'confusion' apply to English language only? Definitely not Chinese because it does not involve any spelling, but I wonder if the same happens to French, German, Italian, etc...

Oh, believe me... it is important.

A person may be able to comprehend the meaning of the words, but how can one convey inflection, subtlety, sincerity... even sarcasm, if the parameters of spelling are ignored?

The human brain is indeed an amazing thing... but more so, I think, when it is well trained by a decent education.
