I just got this knife on Ebay. I'll post more pictures when it arrives.

I hope the knife int he picture isn't the actual knife you brought because they've damaged the spring on it by opening all the blades out like that.

How that damage occurs is explained in this thread along with a picture of how the spring works.

Yup. I didn't know that either till I read the topic. I used to almost make it a custom to do this back in the day when I bought my old SAK & Wenger. Nowadays of course, I avoid those kind of things. sad.gif

Is this the same case or do the tools have to be fully extended?

Edit: Nevermind. I see it's the same as the first I posted.

I have bought many victorinox and wenger knives used and new ones. I don't think you have to worry so much about springs because they are so strong. Springs and blades might get little loose by years even of normal use. That knife looks vintage Standard/Spartan or Tourist model in great shape i have those knives too. macsak.gif

I have bought many victorinox and wenger knives used and new ones. I don't think you have to worry so much about springs because they are so strong.

I've experienced the exact opposite with some of my knives and I know others in this forum have commented that they too have opened multiple blades at once and immediately afterwards noticed the difference in the spring.

I think there's a bit of luck involved to be honest. Some people find doing it once can change the spring others seem to be able to do it multiple times with no harm at all.

In either case the damage isn't huge. The knife will still work, but you may find blades don't have that strong locking into place feel. They can feel a bit more flimsy.

But in general it's not advisable to open multiple blades at once.

I appreciate the information. Good to know. This will just be for RDA's autograph, but it's good to know for the knives I plan on using.

Can't say I have seen this but perhaps they should put a warning on their packaging about this. If they have done so already & I missed it, then oops! But if not, it should be considered.

I think many people do this simply for the apreciation of admiring the workmanship involved and not realizing the after effects.
