I use mine daily. I cut stuff with it all the time. (Sometimes my fingers! )
I almost always use the small blade. I've used the bottle opener once, to open a bottle of apple cider, but when it fizzed stickiness all over my SAK, I started using the kitchen bottle opener. I've also used the tweezers, when I was pulling sewing strings off a uniform shirt, and I've used the toothpick, too. I've never used the bottle opener or the screwdriver tip. Yet. I've used the large blade once. I got duct tape residue all over it. I don't use the keyring. Well, not on my keys, anyway.

My SAK is on my keyring. This serves several purposes:
1) I always know where my SAK is (and my keys, for that matter; it's hard to lose something that heavy); 2) My SAK is always at hand; 3) Having my SAK on my keyring transforms my purse into quite the weapon (according to the guy I accidentally hit in the head with my purse when my keys were at the bottom )
I think I've used just about every tool my SAK has. My favourite tool is the scissors. I just love the look on people's faces when they're hunting around for scissors and I nonchalantly pull out my SAK. Most get the same expression as Merlin has in GK,M, as they try to figure out how they work!
My SAK is one of my best friends.

I only use it when it's needed. Don't keep an eye on it how where and when.
I think the poison that was used was applied to this knife, passed to the mutton when it was cut and then activated by the wine. - MacGyver. Probably about every other day. I mostly use the scissors, the little screwdriver in the corkscrew, both blades, and the file. Oh I've used the straight pin several times. I just used the wood saw yesterday to trim a dowel rod instead of jaunting to the basement.

I use one at work for opening boxes and sacks of chemicals. Its mostly the blade I use. Its not mine thankfully as it get all sticky and grimy! Mine stays at home and doesn’t get used that often . Looks nice and shiny though!
Not sure if I should vote "between daily and weekly" or "I have one, but I just look at it" I guess because the one I use at work isn't actually mine it has to be "I have one but I just look at it"

I use mine daily, and can't figure out how I survived so many years without one. Admittedly, the tool I use daily is the thumb drive, followed (in terms of frequency) by the pen and the flashlight. I probably don't use the knife itself more often than weekly. But that's the point of an SAK after all -- having a pocketful of tools always with you!

Yes. Mine is a 1 gig drive; they have a 2 gig model, but so far I've never felt it to be too small!
I have a laptop that runs Windows 98, and my SAK is the only thumb drive I have that will talk to every computer I regularly use, including the laptop.

Maybe it's a US expression -- probably because they're about the size of a man's thumb. It also evokes connotations of mobility, as in hitchhiking.

No, but it's a friendly shade of red.
I just looked up the provenance of the term "thumb drive": one of the first companies to sell the drives, Trek, called them "thumb drives", so I guess that's where it originated . . . unless they stole the name from elsewhere!

I guess.. but they've never been called thumb drives in New Zealand, even though Trek apparently hold patent rights on the name in NZ. Actually.. you know what.. I've never even heard of Trek Technologies.
We've always called them either Flash drives, or Memory sticks here.
Must be one of those "named after the first brand sold" type deals like Xerox or Kleenix or Band-aids.
Everyday, I EDC a Victorinox Spartan updated with plus scales and a mini driver (urban use knife) and when I am out hiking I take along the Victorinox Ranger for extra measures. I also have a Victorinox classic that stays in my third pocket. I havn't been able to totally get rid of the use of scissors yet. I wish I could though.
Somewhere in one of these threads someone asked why SAKs have the small blade as well as the big blade.
I can't find the post now to reply to so I'm just gonna post in this thread.
I discovered last night while preparing Chestnuts for roasting that the small knife is perfect size for scoring things to peel, such as orange skins and yes, chestnut skins for roasting.
So maybe it's intended as a peeling/scoring blade.

I use mine at least once a week. I've had SAK in my poket everyday since I was 12. I remember being in grade school and silently knowing it was in my pocket. Those who know me ask if I'd help them out when they need it since they know I always have it. Other times I can't help but get a proud MacGyver feeling when someone needs help and I step up while digging quetly in my pocket and humbly take over the situation, fix the problem then fold up the blade and avoid attention just like MacGyver does. Humility is a major part of what MacGyver is about and one of the many things I learned from him. Through the years family and friends have gotten me little keychain SAKs which I place in certain jackets and bookbags, etc just in case I'm ever in the situation where my main SAK is taken away from me:) "Never leave home without it."

My husband took mine away from me. It is a black SAK I finally got in open and tried to get him to give it back to me, but no he says it works well for his pocketwatchs. I really wanted the red one. I'll find one one of these days. Oh and of course he hasn't sharpened it. So you know what they say a dull knife is worse than a sharp knife.
That's what everybody always told me. But I've decided I'm taking back my SAK to heck with my husband and his pocketwatchs. Maybe I'll buy him one for his birthday which is in May. If you think about a surgeon the knifes used to make the incision are always sharp. A clean cut is easier to sew up then a dull cut. Tell your Mom that great minds think alot. I'm going to get Gene to sharpen my knife.
Thank you for allowing me to take back my SAK. You gave me the will power.

I look at it from the other point of view.
A blunt knife is less likely to cut you at all and if it does, it's more likely to be a smaller cut.
A blunt knife might nick your finger, but a sharp knife will cut to the bone.
I'll take the blunt knife any day. (at least where cutting fingers is concerned)

But Rocky a blunt knife is going to leave a nasty scar, that could become infected. A clean cut the surgeon or ER doctor has a better chance of reducing the infection. But just to let you know my husband agrees with you about the knife being dull. He is going to oil mine today. You know that if you get a knife stuck in a vital organ such as your stomach or even worse an eye never pull it out. You don't know what bleeding it may be controling.
Here is one of the pictures of my black SAK that I retook from my husband. Like I said earlier he is going to oil it for me. Maybe I'll be nice and buy him one for his b-day. What do you all think?
