Funko has announced the release of a MacGyver Pop! Vinyl figure due to go on sale Aug 30. The figure was originally spotted on Australian based ‘Sanity’ website for pre-order with a listed price of $18.99 (AUS) and an approximate shipping date of Aug 30. The figure appears to be based on Richard Dean Anderson’s MacGyver with his ‘Raider Bomber’ jacket, blue jeans, high-tops and of course, mullet, all clearly visible.
Shortly after we broke this news the Funko website listed the MacGyver Pop! themselves and late today the figure was also listed on Amazon.com. Interestingly Amazon has the release date listed as Sept. 12; 13 days after the Australian date.
The MacGyver Pop! has been on fans wish-lists for some time now due to the collectible nature and large fan base for the figure collections. When originally contacted about a MacGyver Pop!, US-based manufacturer, Funko, indicated that their decisions are made “based on demand and ability to obtain licensing rights” leaving an impression that production of such items was being prevented by licensing issues. Thankfully for the fans, this seems to have been sorted out now.
Pop! are stylized vinyl figurines based on pop culture characters from Movie, Television, video games, comic books, and other pop culture sources and have become a major pop culture collectible item around the world.
