MacGyver Reboot Cancelled

CBS have announced today that the MacGyver reboot has been cancelled. The last episodes of this season will air as scheduled with the series finale airing on April 30.

The news has shocked fans who, like everyone else, including the prediction sites, thought it was secured for a 6th season. Fans have already begun petitioning CBS with the #SaveMacGyver hashtag and a change.org petition to try and get the show reinstated.

In response to the announcement, Till wrote, “Where to begin? The past five years have been what I will look on later as THE most formative years of my life. Lots of tough, lots of love. I made lifelong friends, actually no, family. I learned to push myself to new limits, breaking through and through and through. Was nervous to take up the mantle of an icon and you guys allowed me into your homes and accepted me. I’m like the Roger Moore of MacGyvers now thanks to your support. Lol. But this is also a love letter to my cast and crew, to those who have been with us since day 1 or day 1000, through those oppressive summer days in the Georgia heat, where the humidity envelopes you like a warm sweater to the below-freezing winter days where the worst part about it is that no one believes you when you say it gets cold in Georgia. Lol. Through all the people who said we wouldn’t make it past the first 13, through all the tough times you guys always somehow brought so much joy into my life, helped me grow exponentially and you’ve shown me what it means to be a real cinema team. This format just doesn’t do enough justice for all that I want to say, so maybe this is the first of many blubbering messages, but thank you, my new family, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. All of you.”

It’s been a polarizing show in the MacGyver fandom since it first aired in 2016 when it receiving harsh criticism from the fans of the original show, but slowly found it’s feet, and a loyal fan-base propelling it to the top of it’s Friday night time-slot, where it has remained for all 5 seasons. The show has had as much drama off screen as on, from the shock exit of lead co-star Gearge Eads to the even more shocking firing of show runner Peter Lenkov for creating toxic work environment which lead show star Lucas Till to become suicidal,  near fatal on-set accidents and back-door “legal settlement” crew changes, but through it all the fans stayed loyal.

New show runner Monica Macer posted, “Since coming on board to MacGyver last year, I have been amazed by the devotion and enthusiasm of this remarkable cast and crew, as well as the loyal fans. My gratitude goes out to [stars] Lucas, Tristin [Mays], Justin [Hires], Meredith, Levy [Tran] and [Henry] Ian [Cusick], who put everything they have into our show, specifically for the fans.  We can’t wait for them to see our spectacular final episodes and the adventures that still await for Mac and the team at the Phoenix.”

The series finale of MacGyver airs Friday, April 30th and is titled “Abduction + Memory + Time + Fireworks + Dispersal” wrapping the series with a total of 94 episodes.
