Los Angeles was MacGyver’s home base throughout the 7 seasons of the original show as well as the reboot series. Even though the physical Filming g location changed between Los Angeles and Vancouver, the location within the show was always Los Angeles.
The move to Vancouver for Filming g seasons 3-6 lead to some interesting (and noticeable) distinctions between the real LA and the ‘MacGyver LA’ such as snow during the winter months, the close proximity of a large mountainous backdrop to the city as well as the ample moist greenery in stark contrast to the real LA’s dry desert climate.
The best way to rationalize the changes is to think of the Vancouver seasons as winter in the fictional “MacGyververse Los Angeles” while the other seasons are summertime for him.
In correlating the MacGyver LA with the real LA his houseboat would have most probably been located at the Marina Del Rey just north of LA International Airport.
