Ireyna Voleskya was Professor Cornwell’s personal assistant at his Cornwell Institute in Kenya. She first met MacGyver when he was asked to visit Cornwell at the institute.
After Cornwell was shot she revealed that she was, in fact undercover Interpol Agent Kari Kurikovand and had been hired to protect Cornwell because he believed someone wanted his research for the seed.

The Ireyna/Kari character was drawn based on lead artist, Will Sliney’s then girlfriend Laura O’ Callaghan. The two have since married.
